Guest guest
HI, My mom had a tick bite and did 3 months of doxcycline. She is losing her memory etc. She is going to see her doctor tomorrow and ask for testing. The doctor is not lyme literate but may go along with my mom's request. So, which tests should my mom ask for? Thanks, cori
Guest guest
Cori: Sorry I didn't get back to you before the appointment. Western Blots are almost always considered better than the screening tests that insurance companies try to direct doctors to do. My vote goes to Igenex Western Blot, but you will have to order the kit. You can google and find them on the Internet. It's possible to get lucky using another test. There are different types of tests, but most lyme specialists say that it's best to use the Western Blot. Unfortunately, ticks can transmit many other pathogens as well or other pathogens and not lyme. Lyme, Bartonella, Babesia and Ehrlichia seem to be the most common that we know of. Lyme is associated with short-term memory problems I believe, like word recall, taking wrong turns while driving, and stumbling in speech. Sorry to hear about your mother. It's wonderful she has you to help her. Love and prayers, Heidi N > > HI, > My mom had a tick bite and did 3 months of doxcycline.
