Hello,

I am the grandmother to Elise, a 6-year-old precious girl who was born with

congenital CMV. She is on the spectrum for lots of different reasons. I am

finding the forum helpful, so thank you for allowing me to join.

I ran across this article today and wondered if anyone knew anything about the

information. I have tried to join the Autism Legislative group, but my

membership has not yet been approved.

Anything we can do to improve services to our kiddos is worth our time.

Thanks again,

Will Texas adopt new ways to educate children with autism?

Officials and educators in Texas are considering ways to meet the academic needs

of a growing number of children with autism. Many teachers have little training

to work with students who have the disorder, but a proposal to increase

specialized training recently failed in the state legislature. Other

possibilities such as creating special-education charter schools within public

schools or universities also face an uphill battle amid the state's budget

concerns.
