Guest guest
In the UK the Royal family holds absolutely no constitutional power- they are just figureheads of a bygone era that the British (English) are fondly hanging on to. I personally think it has excellent tourist value- most of their tourism revenue comes from the royal attractions to domestic and foreign visitors. This is also the case in Spain and Netherlands unlike the gulf states. Interestingly Australia and Canada continue to have the British royal family as their figure heads as well though it does not bring any added value to their countries. I am waiting for the day when a poor man can become prime minister of India instead of president. Sadhana '85 Re: Re: What do moderates do in the face of political rhetorics? Throw in the towel?? > Obviously my reference was to the many Gulf countries and UK and some of the European countries(or better Counties). Is it not amazing that we were governed by the British for over 200 years, but when they left, we opted for a system where even a poor man can become the president of the nation (compare with the Royal ancestry of UK) ! Our Constitution makers were not influenced by the the Royal legacy of the Britishers. > Munish Raizada'85 >
