Guest guest
Jennie, I am really wondering what is going on with the 10mg of Strattera. I did a lot of reading about Strattera when we tried it for my son (made his OCD skyrocket, helped a tiny bit with hyperactivity, not a good trade-off), and I learned that it is very important to get the right dose. It should be 2.2 mg. per kilogram, I think - even getting started at a lower dose, my son started at 18mg., for his weight (about 50 lbs.) the target dose was between 25- 40mg. A number of the websites I read stressed that doses lower than the target dose were useless, and that higher doses than recommended caused side effects like irritability, insomnia, etc. You should check with your dr. and tactly ask why he isn't prescribing the dose recommended by the manufacturer, and if it is really doing anything. It is possible that even the low dose of Strattera is contributing to your daughter's OCD, since it certainly made my son's much worse. We are dealing with defiant behavior in spades, I know how difficult that it is. I have really seen it wax and wane, like the tics & OCD, so I know it related to my son's chemistry somehow. I just wish we could find a drug that helps...this chemical roulette is so damn frustrating! We are trying drug #4 next week (clonidine). Have any of you read Rose Wood's " Dysinhibition Syndrome " ? I have just finished it and have gotten some very good ideas for the school and our own parenting skills. It is rather unevenly edited, but compelling and useful. I'll post more later! My son is home from school with diarrhea today. Luckily his OCD contamination fears are not a problem so much now, although we've been through 6 pairs of underwear, two pairs sweatpants, and several toilet cleanings already this morning, poor guy. He is sniffing his fingers more but I don't know if that is a compulsion or a tic. Sandy
