Guest guest
Reading this just makes me think I need to get Elise on it. She is very distractable and I know it’s hard for her to focus sometimes. Hmm, maybe I should take it, too! Hi ! Freddie did it prior to the Ginkgo. It doesn't really bother me either but it can be a distraction to himself. He doesn't pay attention while he is doing it. I don't want him running into poles around school or forgetting to look for cars when crossing the street. And I really don't want him accidently hitting or running into classmates. I think it is one of his " impulsive " behaviors. It's like when you want to run out of a room screaming happy thoughts. Great in thought, not so great in practice. OK when you are in an open field. Not so OK when you are in a crowded school cooridor. Do I think the Ginkgo stopped the behavior, no. I think the Ginko allowed him to focus on getting from point A to point B in a safe manner with out himself as a distraction. I would not give Freddie the Ginkgo if this was the only self distraction he had. It's just one of many distractions. nna Mommy to Freddie 7yrs Full Inclusion 1st Grade " We can change the world one classroom at a time " - Gail on Subject: Re: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] 18 days off Ginkgo! To: DownSyndromeInfoExchange Date: Thursday, January 29, 2009, 11:46 AM nna, You mentioned that he is doing alot of flailing his arms in the air with his head swinging back and forth.... My daughter that isn't DS does that too. She does have a chromosome abnormality with 10q and 5p and when she does this movement, she's watching something that is exciting her such as tv or kids playing on the playground. She will stop playing herself and start. My question is...when Freddie was on Ginkgo did he do this? or is this something new that he's never done before, even prior to having taken Ginkgo? Thought I would ask as maybe this is what my daughter needs to take. It doesn't bother me that she does it, and she does it only when there is alot of movement around her. Ok...So much to my surprise we are seeing some changes in Freddie since going off the Ginkgo 18 days ago? For those of you following the saga of Freddie..... His attention span is starting to slip backward, needs steps to instruction broken down step by step, he is doing a lot of flailing his arms in the air with a swinging of his head back and forth, lots of impulsive laughing, he's getting in other kids personal space, some of his impulse behaviors are back and he's talking in his sleep like crazy again. Freddie's surgery was supposed to be yesterday but was bumped up to this Friday. As soon as the doc clears him, I am going to get the Ginkgo back in him and log any improvements. I'm not panicking about any of this. I am just curious to see the changes. According to everything I have read about Ginkgo, I shouldn't be seeing any of this stuff coming back this quickly? I'll keep ya all posted. nna Mommy to Freddie 7yrs Full Inclusion 1st Grade " We can change the world one classroom at a time " - Gail on
Guest guest
Hi nna, Thanks so much for responding. My daughter only does this when she is standing still. We just tell her easy body or happy hands down and she will stop. Again, thanks [DownSyndromeInfoEx change] 18 days off Ginkgo!
