We use it in both of the kindy classes I work. We only use the slates (wet/dry) and the wooden pieces. Our school ordered the entire system for each kindy class (20 per class). I have never seen a teacher use the whole system? We teach what is expected of a typical kindy student. After the wooden letters and slates we move to lined paper. We also do a lot of writing in journals-so no line paper is needed. I don't know if this is typical across the board for a lot of schools but it is across the board in our 6 kindy classes.

I think the school wasted a lot of money on the program. Perhaps if we had a special day class they would use it? I'm not saying the program is not appropriate. Our school just doesn't have the time to teach the whole program.

For our classes I would say the most important piece is the slate boards for wet and dry.

Patty,

What you need depends a lot of how you teach. Do you like complicated

teacher manuals or do you prefer simple practice methods? I spent $60

on HWT years ago. I believe that most of that was not needed.

is 11 years old and we are just now working on printing. The

only book I'm using is the " Letters and Numbers for Me " . I tore out

the practice sheets and put them in plastic sleeves. That way,

can practice over and over with wipe off markers. The

personality of the child and of yourself make a lot of difference. My

son is very stubborn and sometimes I need a lot of different ways to

teach something. In my opinion, I think that sometimes we as parents

spend a lot of money on some elaborate program thinking that will fix

the problem and compensate for our child's difficulties. It doesn't.

Practice is more important than a certain method. A good wipe off

board with markers is a wise investment.

Thanks nna and Marsha for your input. That's why I love this list and couple of others I am on. I can find out so much information from others who already have experience. .
