Guest guest
Hi everyone, here is my story of how I educated my son's doctor. it is my hope that this approach might work for others as well as it worked for me. When my son was diagnosed I was, like many people, told it was nothing. The nurologist was very kind told me he would be glad to monitor my son and if I wanted to I could go home and look it up. being as inquisative as I am I asked if it is nothing why does it need to be monitored? he laughed said " good question look it up. " Well we all know what I found when I did. One of my first thoughts was that I would never be able to get the nurologist to answer the million and one questions that I had. I felt like my best bet for answers was going to be asking my son's gp because she knew us very well and 's problems were a mystery to her. so I called her office and asked them if they could change his fallow up appointment (she had wanted to see him after the mri results were in) and give us a time slot that would allow us atleast 1 hour. I explained that I had a ton of question about his diagnoses. when we went to see her she asked what I could possibly want to know because chiari was nothing at all to worry about. I asked her if she would mind looking at a few web sites. she started off with the " not all info on the web is true " I said what about NORD, NIH, ASAP, PUBMED. would they have accurate info. she said " you have my attention " and we went into her office and after reading some she told me she had more questions than I had but she knew how to find the answers and she was going to get those answers and would get back to me. she did and she is still amazing when needs anything.
