I agree! I seriously feel like music is food for my brain! I would go

insane without it. I also love classical music. I love all types

really (except rap) but there is something about classical that just

makes me relax.

I find I'm a lot more focussed when listening to music with headphones

(music that doesn't have any of my trigger sounds). Doing this helps to

block out all the bothersome and hurtful sounds. So in theory I can be

more focused on what I'm doing.

Of course back in school they didn't let me wear headphones during

class. If I had been able to I'd probably have been a more focussed and

better student. Than being overwhelmed by all the noises and sounds

being made in class (gum chewing, keys jingling, etc.).

My whole life I've always been the opposite of the norm.

I know what you mean, it's so odd. Like when I was in my work training class, all the noises kept me so distracted I couldn't focus on a word being said regarding actual instruction. I was so distracted! Yet if put in an ipod while working on something, I completely zone out All noise, even the music!! And can focus wonderfully. It's so....bizarre. But hey, shouldn't bizarre, by now, mean normal? It's so Normal! :)Tammy

I too can concentrate better with music. Not that is ideal,

sometimes I'd like to have complete serenity and absence of noise,

but I know is imposible.

I get distracted too often. This is a good method to be able to

complete my work, otherwise I tend to get distracted and obsess with

details. I know that things are not perfect, but I tend to worry

less (perfectionism) when I can concentrate on my work. I am able

to do this by trying to block outside noises, with music. It is

weird, but it works.

I too think I would have been a much better student if I could have

listened to my headphones at school. I always did at home during

homework and at first my parents didn't like it because they said it

would only distract me. Once they saw my grades they changed their

minds. I think we all can agree our lives are opposite of the

norm... Oh how would it be to be " normal " ? LOL

It's been a while since everyone shared what they like to listen to.

I like a lot of different kinds of music, and I'm always looking for

the next big thing. Some of my favorites lately (not all of this is

new music):

The " Once " soundtrack

Wolfmother

Flaming Lips

Talking Heads, especially " Stop Making Sense "

Moby, but he can be depressing

The Cure, ditto

For something completely different, I love the music of Faure--so

atmospheric

What are you guys listening to?

That's a great attitude. Thanks for looking on the bright side.

This sounds cheesy, but seriously-thanks.

There are occasions when my hyper sensitive ears come in handy but most

the time I hate it. I don't understand how I can hear some things.

Take last night for example... the lovely dog across the street

decided to start barking at 1am and didn't stop until 4am. This

happens quiet often this time of the year (harvest here on the farm)

and she is one of my biggest triggers. I love the dog too, I just hate

her bark. I have an air purifier in my bedroom that emits a low hum

and I also listen to a cd of crickets chirping. But I can still hear

the dog. So, I pop in my earplugs (which I rarely use earplugs) and it

drowns out the crickets and air purifier which are in my room, yet I

can STILL HEAR the damn dog that is outside my house across the

street. How is that possible? I don't get it. How can earplugs

silence things in my room but not outside my house when the dog's bark

is really not that loud? My husband was even shocked when I could

pinpoint when she barked with earplugs in because he said he could

barely hear her without earplugs. Weird. I'm just weird! LOL
