The first thing everyone should do is put a sign on your car or in your car somewhere. I had talked to a known safety expert on autism and I complained that my husband does not watch my son like I do. He said if you get in a accident and you are unconscious who is going to watch your son? I needed to make sure that there is somthing within my car to make sure someone realizes there is a child within that care like this. I have sign from the autism society that states there is a child with autism in the car and may not respond to verbal commande on the outside of my car. And gee...I thought I knew everything! hahaha Although, what has been suggested by the Dev. Ped. years ago was to get an ID bracelet for my son. I've never done this simply because with his sensory issues he would not keep it on. I imagine I should get one and then just every so often offer it to him. Since he's getting older he's getting better with the sensory issues...He'll even wear a pair of shorts now with a string on waist. My son may not be severely autistic, since one never knows how any child will react in something like that it sounds like a good idea. Especially a child with high anxiety.
