-------------- Original message from "Kathy" : --------------

The spelling bee was last night. I got my wish, made it through the first round, correctly spelling "police" and behaved perfectly. There were 45 kids and about 5 sat down on the first round - I really felt sorry for them. She then got the hardest word in all of round 2 (and it wasn't just me, several people came up afterwards and said) "miniature" - she of course left out one of the middle vowels (forget which one). She could have gotten many of the words in rounds 4 or 5 but that's the way it goes - although the words were supposed to increase in difficulty as it went on, there was really so much variability in how hard they were. But it was more fun than I would have predicted even after she was out and we were so proud of her!

That is so totally awesome! A huge accomplishment to simply make it to the Bee, and to make it to the second round. WTG !

I was calmer than at the practice bee because I knew she was able to follow the (strict!) procedure. But I was still a wreck - I SO wanted her to get through at least one round to show anyone who may have been doubting her abilities that she could do it!

Wow!! Good for her! You ought to send this story with a picture

to NDSC to put in their newsletter. What an accomplishment!
