Guest guest
Carma and others, I looked up some info on the White Oak Bark after a friend told me that according to one of her midwifery books it is contraindicated during pregnancy b/c it is an alkaloid. Out of four links I found one that said that it isn't good to use during pregnancy and two that said to avoid using it for long periods of time. The fourth link was to Nature's Way and said there were *no* known side effects. The Frontier catalog I ordered it from said basically the same thing, although it did caution against using it over large areas of damaged skin. SOOOO it just goes to emphasize in my mind the need for careful research when it comes to herbs, as the companies involved don't seem to be too interested in publishing known side effects!! Should only be used for one month at a time: http://hepatitis-central.com/hcv/herbs/fortheliver/oak.html Avoid using over prolonged periods: http://www.herbal-center.com/products/simples/0148.htm Should not be used during pregnancy: http://www.nutritionfocus.com/nutrition_supplementation/herbs/White_Oak_Bark.htm\ l#top Interestingly enough I also found that myrrh and juniper berries are no-no's during pregnancy. Love in Christ, Alison __________________________________________________
