Guest guest
I know my wife is on here often, and I don't know what else to do. I'm sure someone's been thru this before. She has had a constant headache for the past few days, in severe pain. worse when she bends. Only meds she has is 800mg motrin. any advice on how to help? what meds help? anything is appreciated. The pressure headache is at the base of her skull. She is already on diamox. we were at tci yesterday and are waiting for Dr. B to see about a fusion. Nothing we do helps. If we go to ER its 5hrs and all they do is poke and probe and say follow up with family Dr. So we are here trying to find out what helps. Shes had a decompression 4/02 and a detetherring 4/07. Since detethering below symptoms are alot better but head symptoms worse. Detethering surgery was great and she doesnt even feel like she had it. THANKS. when i have one of my sever headaches (which i don't get very often anymore) i try keeping myself in a straight position on my side in the bed. i would keep the bed flat and have a small pillow that lets my head lay soft onto the bed. i usually would put a hot wet hand towel i microwave (BECAREFULL put another hand towel over it so you won't burn yourself) wedged behide my neck and I would lay quietly and not always but a lot of times doing this along with the Tylenol the headaches went away. Marisa/Florida decompression / cranial cervical fusion 2/07 disc replacement 2/07 detethering 3/06 ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Ice gel paks on the base of the skull really help me. And also, wearing a soft foam collar can help, you can pick one up without a rx at a medical supply store, RiteAid or whatever. Be sure to get one that fits correctly. If it's too tall, it would tip her head back and cause more problems. If it's too short, it would cause her chin to drop down and makes it ineffective. You can buy one that is too tall and then take it home and carefully, in small stages, trim it down by cutting open the " sock " that is on it. A collar can really really help to keep the skull base pain at bay. Watch what she is doing and if she is doing much that causes her neck to hyper flex or extend (forward/down, or back), this is not good and can really flare up symptoms. The collar helps to keep us from doing that. And also self monitoring so that you avoid those positions (no cleaning/painting ceilings and no positions with her chin on her chest!) A stronger pain med, of course, would be more helpful. But also some lifestyle changes, the collar and ice pak, can really help. hth Virginia > > I know my wife is on here often, and I don't know what else to do.
