Now, let me preface this by saying that I've done zero research on dehydrators, but I managed to find one that works for me and it was just under $40 from Wal-Mart (Nesco). I've had no problems. I only dehydrate nuts. But, I think my father has the same kind and he dehydrates fruit and makes jerky. Never had a problem either. Maybe a less expensive model will work just as well.
