Hi Lynn,

Tylenol w/codeine was my preferred pain med just after surgery. It was

PRN (patient request as needed). I understand a doctors hesitancy to not

prescribe it for outpatient use because it is a narcotic and can be habit

forming.

You all know how we have really bad days and then have some good days

but for this past month, I haven't seemed to have any good days and I

just seem to be really down in the dumps. I don't know if it's

because of the pain, or if it's this menaposal thing (for those of

you that are 50ish)of which I'm just beginning I guess, or if it's

because there are some pretty sad things going on right now, my dad

is very ill with lung cancer.....anyways, here's my question. I

made

an appointment with my family doctor last week which is tomorrow, but

when I was at my dad's on Thursday, my step mom gave me some of my

Dad's Tylenol 3 w/ codeine that he had an extra prescription for.

He's been on them for about 18 years due to a brain tumor which was

very very slow growing. His prescription is for 3 per day but I have

only taken 1 for the last 3 days and it's amazing how great I feel

pain wise. I've always heard that doctor's won't prescribe these

for

us but I'm wondering why....so I guess I would like to know if any of

you are taking these. Is there a good reason why we

shouldn't???

Guess I just want to be sort of prepared when I go to my GP tomorrow

to try to explain what the heck is wrong with me. The only

medication I'm currently taking is Detrol for my bladder. I think I

need some sort of anti depressent or something although I have felt

much better just this last 3 days being able to move around more.

Nobody including my husband seems to understand. Thanks you guys

for

listening and helping. My NSG appointment followup isn't until

June. It's been 1 year since surgery and I've got a pretty good

feeling that this is as good as it gets. My doctor is probably

going

to think I'm crazy.

Thank you for your help, Lynn

Hi Kathy-

Not sure where I heard it, and yea, I guess because it's a narcotic

but if my Dad took it for 18 years and that hasn't been the cause of

his health problems, I am just hoping maybe I can get a

prescription. No, I haven't tried a pain clinic. Actually for this

past year I just keep muddling through because I keep thinking it'll

get better, guess this " 1 year " anniversary for the surgery just has

hit pretty hard making me realize that this is probably as good as it

gets. Before surgery, my neighbor who is a neuro and as a favor he

looked at my MRI and Myleogram...he put me on neurontin which did

nothing and then proceeded to send me to Cleveland Clinic where the

surgeon knew right away what was wrong and I immediately scheduled

surgery thinking that was the total answer. I know the neighbor

neuro had mentioned something about pain management but I didn't

really pay too much attention because after I saw the surgeon, I

thought that was the total answer. My family doctor had also put me

on Ultram long before which had done nothing. Guess I just sort of

feel like this is the first thing that has made me feel relatively

good. I do plan on telling my family doctor about these past couple

days where pain wise I feel pretty good, although I honestly feel

like I must need some sort of an antidepressant. My God, I cry at

the drop of a hat lately and that's just not me. I've never been one

who has went to the doctor for anything other than normal yearly

checkups. I feel like such an idiot going over there and trying to

explain how I feel right now. Maybe it's just the menopause thing.

So what do you think? Probably that I'm wining huh (ha),

Thanks for listening. Lynn
