If you can, I@d have a strep titres test done. We traced Tom's first

sustained self injurious behaviour back to summer 2005 when he had a

terrible throat infection. NOw he has suspected PANDAS. So - if you

think it's suspect, ask for a blood test. The worst that can happen is

that you're wrong and waste an NHS blood test. Tom's titres for step

were 1360 against a reference of 170, with no external symptoms at

all. So - a very sick boy but attacking himself instead of fighting

off infection. If your gut feeling is that something is not right, go

and tell your doctor that with confidence, even if you say you'd like

the strep test to put your mind at rest. And don't settle for the

throat swap. Tom's titres are 1360, his throat swap is low to medium

levels of strep. You'd need both tests to be sure.
