Hi, I have never heard of cranial massage, but am interested, of course!

Andy turned 10 months today and the facial asymmetry is still obvious in a

lot of his pictures. His plagiocephaly is too mild for a helmet or band. I

have read in most sources that the tort needs to be fixed by one year of age

or the facial asymmetry may never go away completely. Our orthopaedist says

that is now very controversial and places the age of importance more like 2

years. He says in 9 years of practice he's only done 2 torticollis

surgeries. Andy has been xrayed and it appears so far the asymmetry is just

in the flesh and not the bone. Still, I worry about his facial asymmetry and

tort a lot, much more than his head shape. I sure wish I could be more

help! diane

our clinic suggested "cranial massage". I don't know of a medical

term for it. we were just told to firmly, but gently press and massage

the parts of the head that "stick out". Hanna rather likes it.

it's kind of gross - you can actually see the head flexing!! I don't

really feel it has done anything for Hanna, but like I said, she enjoys

it!

I'm with you. I worry so much about Jessie's face too and am hoping the

helmet will take care of most of the assy with her head.

She has only had neck x-ray's so far. Did Andy have an MRI or some other

type of x-ray that has ruled out involvement of bone structure? You said you

are seeing an orthapedist? Are you working at all with a cranial facial

specialist? What is your PT schedule? Sorry so many questions.........I

still feel like I am full of questions and have very few answers.

If I find out any info about the cranial massage, I'll pass it along. It

seems like I read a post here about that but maybe it was on the torticollis

discussion group.

Thanks!

Hi, andy only had his neck, spine, hips xrayed. the orthopaedist is very

positive, which I wish were more contagious! He says an asymmetrical face just

isn't that unusual even in babies with no torticollis. we did the pt with a

place for awhile but now just do it at home at every diaper change. He HATES it

and cries and cries. He is a big boy and it's hard for me to control him, 10

months, but 26 lbs. I don't know if a cranial facial specialist can do anything

unless the bones are affected? and that would be with surgery, wouldn't it?

somedays andy holds his head very straight, and others he leans it quite a bit.

It is worrisome. he only sleeps on his tummy since 6 months old and from what

I've seen he sleeps with his head turned either way so should be getting some

stretch that way, but the improvement seems so minor to me if at all. did you

see our page? more current pics on there.. diane

Diane,

Jessie only had her neck x-rayed but I don't think she needs any others at

this point. We're seeing the cranial facial specialist for the plagio so we

are also working with him and PT for the tort. I haven't found out much

about the cranial massage but did post someplace to check out so I'll

give that a try. If I find anything I'll let you know. It seems I can only

get on the computer every few days right now.

Jessie also fights me when I do PT at home with her and she will barely let

the PT touch her (stranger anxiety at 5 mo :>) so we struggle with it. But I

am noticing improvement and like Andy she has days where there is no tilt and

others where we see it all day. I am seeing improvement with the facial assy

which makes me feel better but I do still see it when I look at her in the

mirror or when she's tired and in some pictures. And of course when I study

her like only a mother can do, then I see it!

Wouldn't it be nice to look into the future when this is all over and

resolved and see how great everything turns out!!!!

Thanks for the address to your web-site, I'll check it out.

Robyn

Tammy..I am taking Christian to his first appointment on Friday, and I will

be sure to report back..Christian is a craniosynostosis kid, but he is in a

DOC band..the massage is usually performed by a chiropractor and the kids

really like it..they massage the sacrum part of the spine and the plates on

the head to help with movement..it sounds kind of weird, but my godson had a

flat spot on the back with the metopic ridging and both have started to go

away, so I though it might help my little one..I think there is information

on the site if you want to search..Varissa
