Guest guest
Thanks for posting your observations....it may help the rest of us who are thinking about it. I've started giving my 20yo son 120mg day. I know that's not a lot compared to his weight....but I'm still not sure about it. Anyway, thanks....I like to hear first hand info. Shirley [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] 18 days off Ginkgo! Ok...So much to my surprise we are seeing some changes in Freddie since going off the Ginkgo 18 days ago? For those of you following the saga of Freddie..... His attention span is starting to slip backward, needs steps to instruction broken down step by step, he is doing a lot of flailing his arms in the air with a swinging of his head back and forth, lots of impulsive laughing, he's getting in other kids personal space, some of his impulse behaviors are back and he's talking in his sleep like crazy again. Freddie's surgery was supposed to be yesterday but was bumped up to this Friday. As soon as the doc clears him, I am going to get the Ginkgo back in him and log any improvements. I'm not panicking about any of this. I am just curious to see the changes. According to everything I have read about Ginkgo, I shouldn't be seeing any of this stuff coming back this quickly? I'll keep ya all posted. nnaMommy to Freddie 7yrsFull Inclusion 1st Grade"We can change the world one classroom at a time" - Gail on Internal Virus Database is out-of-date.Checked by AVG. Guest guest
I will be anxious to hear if his behavior returns to the way it was prior to taking him off to see if it truly is connected to the Gingko. I'm debating about what to do with Kit. I am not convinced any of her behaviors at school have anything to do with the Gingko--but I don't know. Seems we take 1 step forward and 3 back and never really make any headway. I, personally, at times, feel they are setting her up to fail--not implementing any type of "programming" we talk about--at least not consistently so they can pressure me for more pull-out. I asked to have some other teachers observe her and 3 of them did--all within the span of one week, but different times on different days with only a couple of overlaps. It was often difficult to read the three reports because it so does not sound like my kid. Lots of "Kit refuses to acknowledge peer", "Kit refuses to follow direction to join the group", "Kit yells "no" when she sees aide", "Kit will have nothing to do with lesson and refuses to let aide near her to help", "Kit again removed herself from the group and isolated herself at table in back of room", "Kit appears sad and depressed", "Kit does not initiate or engage in interactions with peers." It's so discouraging and only 1st grade! Hope Freddie's surgery goes well!! Jill Mom to Mac & Kit [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] 18 days off Ginkgo! Guest guest
That is surprising! Thanks for the observations. We missed a day of gingko for Faith and she had a headache. Don't know if that is connected, very rare for her to have a headache. I started taking gingko myself a month or so ago. My recall is much better. I was having a lot of trouble concentrating on more than one thing and that is better, too. ette mom to Faith (11)Ds -------------- Original message from Freddies Mommy : -------------- Ok...So much to my surprise we are seeing some changes in Freddie since going off the Ginkgo 18 days ago? Guest guest
I know it's hard for us to go and observe our kids...but I think you really need to with those reports...so what if she acts different with you in the room---maybe they'll see what she 'can'[ do with the 'right' support...even when knew I was there i could see so many things that they couldn't (forest for the tress thing) I'd say get in there--volunteer to do the Valentines day party or something---there's more to this than just a bad aide. , Mom to 15, DS, Southern California"People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it!"-------Chas Diagnosis Down Syndrome: A Site of Hope for New Parents or Parents with a Prenatal Diagnosishttp://www.leeworks.net/DDS/What to Say to Parents of a Child with a Diagnosishttp://www.leeworks.net/DDS/speech.html [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] 18 days off Ginkgo! Guest guest
nna, You mentioned that he is doing alot of flailing his arms in the air with his head swinging back and forth.... My daughter that isn't DS does that too. She does have a chromosome abnormality with 10q and 5p and when she does this movement, she's watching something that is exciting her such as tv or kids playing on the playground. She will stop playing herself and start. My question is...when Freddie was on Ginkgo did he do this? or is this something new that he's never done before, even prior to having taken Ginkgo? Thought I would ask as maybe this is what my daughter needs to take. It doesn't bother me that she does it, and she does it only when there is alot of movement around her. Guest guest
I agree and am going to ask if I can spend a day or at least part of day over a couple of days--even if I become her aide for that time I'll be able to better understand the dynamics of the classroom and maybe be able to model what I would do in certain situations.
