Guest guest
I agree with everything you've said...just remember that by placing him in Fourth grade, when he was *nevrer* in second grade or exposed to it....that would be the equivalency of catching up *two* years in one. If I retain him in Third Grade, it'll be a closer gap. I'm all about holding them accountable. Sadly, our school fights 1:1 with everything they've got. Any suggestions on how to get that? ~C Subject: Re: Retaining in schoolTo: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Date: Sunday, March 28, 2010, 6:55 PM Holding a child back in very instances is good, for the most part it is not fair to the child. I would not hold him back, I would pass him to the fourth grade, request evaluations in all areas, especially an academic achievement one and a full reading/dyslexia one. I would ask them to catch him up. Summer is around the corner and you can either do it privately and seek reimbursement from the sd or wait and see if the ESY program the school offers has anything good in it. Make goals, make them annual and measurable. Most importantly do not allow any modifications/ accomodations, put him in a reg. classroom with a 1:1 if necessary, and after all evals are in generate the plopsplaff with anuual measurable goals to hold the school acountable.
