My Bullmastiffs had these elbow callouses pretty bad, worse as they got older and if they did not sleep on a soft bed. This was years ago, before I used DMSO or EIS. I would keep them dressed with a salve like Herb Pharm's Herbal Ed's Salve, comfrey, calendula in bees wax and olive oil base. Very healing, can close a wound overnight. Has other good stuff in it. Whole Foods carries it or try www.herb-pharm.net (com?). I like Emu Oil with Essential Oil of Oregano for infected areas. Worked on an abcessing pad really well. http://av-at.com has excellent prices and quality. You want the high cravacrol O-o-O. Emu is penetrating and very moisturizing, will soak in quickly and carries the O-o-O in with it. I put five drops of the EO into a 2 oz bottle of Emu Oil. This seems sufficient but you could use more. They also have Catnip Oil which is suppose to repel misquitoes 4X more than DEET. I have not tried it yet. But there are some studies in a lab model that support it. > > My question for you is, should I be using something with this? Some think this is an indicator of food allergy, try going wheat free if you are not already. That means no food scraps with wheat either. If she is already wheat free she may just be a chronic licker or have another allergy - grass? Is it seasonal? Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions Garnet, I will get some emu and ooo . It's two weeks now since that incident and i have been using my 50/50 several times a day and the site is reddish from the dmso, but healthy looking and smaller and softer. I think there was an initial infection caused by breaking the callous open around seawater, but it's gone now.
