Guest guest
Amen! The power of the mind is incredible. If you can put a smile on your face and walk tall, people will respond in a positive way for the most part. And for the ones who don't, THEY have the problem. It does not belong to you. Guest guest
I practice having a positive attitude as much as possible. Coming from a very negative family, sometimes that is difficult. I read once that using the correct words can make a difference in how you feel, and in how others feel as well. For example, if you practice saying a different word each time someone asks "How are you?" you can really make a difference in how you feel. I have tried this and it really works. One time I walked into a group and a teenage son of a friend was looking really down. He said Hi how are you? I responded with a smile and said Terrific! lol He straightened up and smiled. I asked him how he was and he said he was really tired and had no idea why he was smiling. I now regularly use such words as terrific, stupendous, incredible, fantastic, etc when asked how I am. It is amazing but at the time I say it I really do feel it! And people respond. Course sometimes their response is a little unexpected. The daughter of a friend once said I had to be on something to say that! lololol Jane
Guest guest
Orange... I always think of something some movie star said, I think it was Jane Fonda...or maybe it was Queen Latifa...but anyway...they said that women of all sizes are pretty when they are well groomed...So put a smile on your face...buy a cool new outfit...and get your hair done...and you'll feel better and people will see you're beautiful. I need to lose about 20-30pounds and I have tried everything, but I just don't seem to have discipline like I use to!! I never had a weight problem until i reached my 40s.Now, I am going to a conference over the next few days and feel like I am not the attractive women i was at this same conference last year...I know this sounds very silly, but it really bothers me.I guess my question to the group is how do you get through those events when you don't feel like you look like yourself? I know walking will help in the long term, but how do I adjust to the overweight person I am now while I am working on this? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. orange Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
Thanks Beth, That put a smile on my face. i posted a similar message on some of my other women forums...to no avail. So few women want to speak to on how to emotional handle it when we have a few pounds on. it is like the ::clears throat:: proverbial elephant in the room, we all have seen or felt it, or at least most, but there seems to be little written or discussed on how to handle weight with grace etc and a ton written about how to take it off!! Anyway this was just the right advice for how I am feeling...thanks, Orange > I read about this story and felt like it was such a positive and honest story. Here's a couple articles on positive attitudes. The first deals with ageing and positive attitude which interested me since I'm 60+ http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3642356.stm http://www.wellnessweightloss.net/positive_attitude.htm Beverly

Guest guest
> > I read about this story and felt like it was such a positive and honest story. I have been Hey orange!! I totally agree with Beth and the others!! I have another little secret too though... sexy underwear comes in all sizes now and when I have to go to a function and feel uncomfortable in my skin because of my size... That little secret only I know gives me more confidence. There's something about feeling good from the skin out that radiates to others. I'm about 35-50 over my goal weight (huge range right??) but when I tell people how much over I actually am they are shocked. I think that has to be because i'm really happy right now and wouldn't trade one single pound to change where I am in my life. Now if I can lose the weight and keep this life... I will be blessed beyond my imagination!! Maybe I need the little extra weight to keep my feet on the ground for a bit.
