Hotel Availability for Las Vegas

Hi everyone,

I've just been notified by UNOS that, in addition to the convention traffic Las Vegas normally has, they are expecting several VERY large groups to be in town the same week we will be (one group is estimated at between 30,000 & 50,000 people). Therefore, I would strongly encourage everyone to make their hotel reservations ASAP, even if you haven't gotten final approval from your institution yet. You can always cancel the reservation later if you need to, but you may not have the ability to MAKE a reservation if you opt to wait until everything is approved. Please call for reservations & please be sure to tell the reservations agent you will be attending the UNOS Tx Mgmt Conference. They will also honor this rate for up to 3 days before & 3 days after our Forum dates, based on space availability, if you wish to extend your stay; our rate is $169/night (which is significantly lower than that REALLY big group I mentioned before!!). If you have any problems making your reservations, please e-mail me privately @ LAguiar@...

With regards to the Forum brochure, registration form, & agenda-please be patient a little longer. Once MELD/PELD is rolled out next week, things should (hopefully) get back on the fast track.

Amy I feel the same way. My peers want the financial counseling work done

but they are not

willing to spend any money to assist in any education expense. When I

learned of the Tx Financial Coordinators Association, I was more than

willing to pay my fees to join .. to date, my money was

well spent....I hope the coordinators that are able to attend the affair

will share their new knowledge. Thanks for allowing me to share. ljm

I think this is a challenge for all of us. We need to all work on it so that

someday we can say.. " yes I AM A FINANCIAL COORDINATOR " instead of saying " I

am JUST a financial coordinator. "

My institution has given me the respect as a TFC. It did not happen

overnight, I must confess. I worked very hard for them to realize the

importance of having a TFC.

To summarize what UNOS- By Laws stated about TFC's ..is that WE EXIST!!

Therefore, we need to work hard to make sure our institutions know that we

do.It is all up to us to prove to our own institutions.

Again, I find this as a challenge!!!

tfc accreditation is one of the things TFCA is looking at down the road. and

youre right joan, accreditation would increase tfc standing i think. i dont

know whether facilities would allow their tfc's to accept financial assistance

for something like a conference fee and room and board or not. i suspect,

however, that most would frown on it.... we have to fight just to get our

facility to let vendors supply a lunch for a meeting on site.

well you vent away amy.... because the things you are saying are very real for

many of us tfc's. it may not be politically correct to say it out loud, but it

needs to be said anyways.... rusty

I am a little upset, especially when there are all kinds of drug company gift

funds being used for stupid thing like bags with our logo!!

Don't do that amy..that's a defeat!!!

Amy, I know you can make the difference. Think of a strategy that will make

your institution realize your work. You are the best person who can do this.

Not going to the conference or not having conf budget does not mean that

your existence is ignored. There's a budget crunch all over.

Hey..........we need to stick together but we can't be too down on ourselves.

I think it's a given that most TFC's feel very unappreciated............ I do

agree, usually if there's no more money for travel it seems that we are the ones

that are selected as not needing the travel .......now that we have a group and

a meeting to attend....we notice the exclusion even more and of course with the

economy most of us hear.......budgets are " cut " . I agree with all this,

however, we all need to realize our own worth......... and we need to remember

that people can't make us feel unappreciated unless WE ALLOW them to make us

feel unappreciated.......What motivates me is that I try to remember the most

important aspect of what I do and that I do it to help the patients.... Now

to make me feel good way down deep, I secretly tell myself those that don't

appreciate the work I do..........well if I didn't do what I do...they just

might not be getting their trips and paychecks!!!!!!! Keep up the good

work....................we ARE VALUABLE, just ask the patients!!!!! Have a great

Well, I have gone back to school so perhaps in the next few years I will be the

one making the choices of who does what.

Unfortunately, this is the only place to bring up subjects such as these and get

feedback from others that truly understand.

I think it is out of my system now....

Amy,

Glad that we have given you the ability to " vent " ..... as I suppose I just

did in my recent email to all of you. I truly feel that one day we WILL be

appreciated for what we do.... I hope to see it in my lifetime (ha! ha!),

but, if not, then just knowing that we will make a difference for others who

may be in our positions in the future.... maybe that helps.

Rea is right.... we can't give up... look at those athletes in the Winter

Olympics.... they fall and get right back up again.... and some even end up

with the Gold!!! Don't let a few " falls " keep us down...

I also do not get any money from the hospsital for education. I even paid my

own membership last year. (it has been well worth it). I have gotten

" education " grants from the different drug companies in order to go last

year. I had to send a letter to each of our representatives asking for a

grant. The most I asked for each one is $500. If some can not give any funds

they may be able to pay for things like parking,lunch etc. Unfortuantely I

will not be able to attend this year. Any info to share would be

appreciated.
