I'm sitting here waiting for the phone to ring to tell me there is no school today. We have a 2 hr. delay but so far no day OFF. Many of the schools in our area, though, are closed due to the wind chills. I have a feeling we wont' be off so I better quit being lazy and get ready to go!!

We have school today but everyone around us is out. It's 1 degree here but the wind-chill has to be -25 to cancel. I glad as we will not have to make this one up. I'm west of St. Louis.

Same here in sunny south Florida. High 70 today, low 55 tonight, lots of sun, housing a bargain at low $100's, state spends less money per student than ANY other state, cuts to all social services, 10 year Medwaiver wait list, virtually no public transit, but we are warm!

It is beautiful here…it is cold 9 degrees, but the sun is

shining and we have about 15” of snow…. the trees are coated with snow….wish I could

take a picture, but we can’t find the charger for the camera;-(

We’re at -13 with a wind chill of -35 here in Wisconsin. All

our schools in the area are closed and may be closed on Friday when the wind

chill is still expected to be -25. We’re definitely staying inside.

I'm a Minnesota native and didn't experience school closing either,

BUT I lived in the city. We're rather rural and have kids getting

bused in from up to 20 miles away. The problem is the buses breaking

down in the severe cold and kids waiting outside for them. A friend

of mine had kids wait over 45 minutes because the bus broke down and

then the replacement went in a ditch, before they finally walked home

to get a ride--good thing she wasn't working that day. No way to

notify all those kids standing outside waiting in the cold.

I grew up in a mostly rural town, and often times only the 'town kids' made it to school, but we still had school and the parents were responsible for getting their kids in. Since farmers were home in the winter, it wasn't a problem. Don't know what they do now days.When we lived SD I remember refusing to send in the -46 wind chill and they thought I was a bit nuts! Okay guys I am in SW Fl and I woke up to a thick layer of frost on my windows this morning. Not good.. kills the plants meant for us all to have vegetable next month. Can't imagine what the frost inland where its much colder must be like this morning. My son told me it means I can move north, NH, with them. Not happening.. The had -20 last week.
