Guest guest
I feel for you really...........I am paying $700 per month for me and THROUGH my company! That is MY portion..............I would also welcome any suggestions and our increase should be coming next month! This country's healthcare is out of control...........I hope someone starts to make some changes REAL soon! Dawn Mom to 2 Hi... My husband and I just found out our health insurance premiums are being raised again for the 2nd time in 10 months. It started out as 525.84 and will be $894.33. Mind you, this is only insurance for my 2 daughters and myself. We can't afford any for my husband. He is self employed. In order for us to move to another group, we have to show that I get paid from the company. I don't. They need payroll for 1 month, a ledger showing this, taxes withheld, front and back copy of the check after it's been cashed. I need some help here as we don't know what to do. We can't afford the higher premium but my girls need the coverage. One daughter is Trisomy 10q/5p- and my other daughter is Down syndrome and has open heart surgery but is repaired. Any suggestions are welcomed. One thought is to take the risk and be uninsured and hope to get Medicaid for both of them. Thank you all so much. and Parents to Jezeca, 6, Trisomy 10q/5p- and to Zephany, 2, DS Inauguration '09: Get complete coverage from the nation's capital. Guest guest
I tried applying 2 years ago and was told that would need to be UNINSURED for at least 3 months before being eligible. While thankfully has no medical concerns, that is NOT a chance I am willing to take...........how can they say a child with special needs HAS TO BE uninsured......I appealed and was told that even if he WERE uninsured they are no longer taking applicants at the 300% above poverty level......how terrible is that! Dawn Mom to 2 Does your state have a buy in program for Medicaid coverage? Some states do…you wouldn’t have to qualify financially-you would pay a premium. Would your girls qualify for SCHIPS? In our state, SCHIPS allows a higher income than Medicaid does. Guest guest
It absolutely makes NO sense.......that is how it works in NJ......I sometimes think I would be better off leaving my job and staying home with then the state would pay for our health, housing, food........it really is very tempting! Dawn That doesn’t make a lot of sense. Danny qualified for Medicaid coverage when he was 10 days old. The social worker applied for Medicaid for him while he was still in the NICU…it took awhile for the paperwork to go through, but then coverage was retroactive to the date of application…so we had to pay our portion of the hospital bills from when he was born to 9 days of age, but after that, our insurance and Medicaid and SCHIPS took care of everything, including his deductibles. Guest guest
My husband is self employed as well. We made the changes to show that I get paid from his company. I do many thing for the company and so now I get a paycheck which he cashes. Another big advantage of doing that was that it allowed us to get a health savings account which I am just loving. It's the first time ever that I've been happy with our insurance plan. Kathy [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Healthcare Hi... Guest guest
That is what has. Here it was called Healthy Start, and, while we didn't qualify for Medicaid, he does get state insurance. Amounts to the same thing, really. I have a couple of plans that I found that will accept the girls with pre-existing conditions and no underwriting, and lots cheaper. Yeah!!!
