Maggie, it's not so strange that you have been able to turn sounds you

hated into sounds you like. I Actually -tried- this too, because there

are sounds that give me pleasure. I tried to teach myself to

anticipate a sound with pleasure rather than dread. I wasn't able to

do it. But I feel you're on the right track and this is why I am

hoping hypnosis will help me. I'd love to be reporgrammed to WANT to

hear these sounds! :D

It makes me sad that you hate the sounds of birds and crickets-- I

actually love these sounds. Just goes to show that our associations

with these sounds are psychological though I am sure there's an

underlying, physiological malfunction.

Maggie,

you are not alone. for me it is the sound of sketching with a pencil and

coloring with markers or crayons. sometimes the sound of someone

sweeping can feel good also. this noise puts me at such peace and the

physical sensation is better than any massage i have ever had.

do you mimmick or have some type of verbal lash out against the noises

you don't like ? for some reason mimmicking the noises i don't like,

loudly so the person making the noise i don't like can hear me,

somewhat eases the suffering. the bad part is it makes me look like a

raving lunatic most of the time,

Hi, Maggie, and welcome to the group! I also LOVE the sound of pages turning, whether it's books, magazines, or (my favorite) newspaper pages. The way you describe it as being like pleasant tingles down your neck is *exactly* it. And the anticipation itself is pleasurable, like you say. I have no idea why this is so, but I've also noticed over the years that sounds in my left ear or touches on the left side of my neck are much more pleasurable (or much worse if they're "trigger" sounds) than on the right side. Go figure. We're probably all much better experts on our own idiosyncracies than we ever wanted to be! -Hopemag4wfu wrote: The sound of a magazine page turning is like the BEST sound in the world to me!! I absolutely love sitting at the doctors office in the waiting room and listening to people turn pages. Ok I know I am crazy! .

I definitely do get that feeling with certain sounds, but it hasn't

happened with pages turning. It's been with pencil writing more than

anything else (weird, I know). I think " tingles " would pretty much

be the best way to describe it. I have been able to replicate that

feeling with certain sounds by concentrating and anticipating them.

I've even been able to do it with just simply someone's voice. It's

a very pleasurable feeling and I wish I could replicate it any time

I wanted to, but unfortunately I haven't been able to do it with the

sounds that aggravate my 4S.

Hi everyone. I once posted about this same subject. I wanted to know

why there are certain sounds I love EQUAL to the ones I despise. I

love the sounds (and even watching)people writing with a pencil,

sweeping the floor, working with fabric, brushing or styling hair

and working with paper. I'm sure this has something to do with 4S..I

just wish someone could figure out exactly what!

Hi Maggie,

If you are still receiving these messages, i would love to know how you are dealing with the birds and crickets?  My child cannot tolerate those sounds, and I am trying to find ways that people have learned to cope.  Thanks, Merry
