Guest guest
Hello All, My whole family has been through sooo much the past couple of years. my husband left over 3 years ago, because he no longer wanted autism in his life. To this day, he has had no contact with his child, that he helped raise for 7 years. Can't even track him down for child support. Anyway, after lots of prayers and trying to put my life back together, I have recently remarried a wonderful man who has loved and embraced my son...with all the craziness that having an autistic child in the home brings. Ok, i thought I would give a little of that info to get to my next question. I would love to have another child with my new husband, but am terrified that autism will hit our home once again. My son has very low functioning autism and the thought of having to go through this again with another child terrifies me! There are so many theories out there about what can cause a child to be more susceptible to autism. I have battled with thyroid problems ever since I was a teenager, and I have heard that this can cause your child to be more susceptible to autism. I will absolutely not vaccinate! I just know a lot of families that have multiple kids with autism and that really scares me. Is there anything I can do to prepare my body before trying to conceive that may lessen the chances of having another child with autism? Should I go through chelation myself? Anything I can prepare my body for? Thanks, Mache Villalobos
Guest guest
Hello, I just wanted to let you know that research reveals that if you have a child with Autism, you will have an 8% increased chance of having another child with Autism when compared with the general population. Eight percent is higher than the general population but is not as high as many would think. I believe you are on the right track. Keeping in mind the things you need to avoid in pregancy (seafood, organophosphates, vaccinations, etc) will help you stay on top of things. I wish you the best of luck. May a God bless you and your family. Guest guest
Plus along with everyone's response, do not forget your current husband's genes will not be involved as your first. Ever wonder if some of your ex-husband might of been under the spectrum himself for abandoning his child with you? There are many reason why our individuals are dx'd under the autism spectrum but I must agree follow your heart and pray for some happiness to come your way and your family. We just happen to be in the middle of yet another autism evaluation. They have asked me a lot of questions about thyroid functioning during preqnancy. I don't know why they would do that unless there is something there. But, I don't have that problem myself, so I don't have a clue. We will be in this evaluation all day Thursday. Do you want me to ask about it and report back? I would not mind doing that at all! Just let me know. FYI. I have two kids and only one has autism. The " normal " one, a fraternal twin to the other, DOES have some relatively mild sensory issues and weak executive functioning, but not to the clinical point. Guest guest
Congrats! I am the mom to a 12 year old daughter from a previous marriage ( not autistic ) But then I remarried to an amazing husband and have 3 boy's who have autism. so I supose it depends in the genes is some cases. My sister in law ( my current husband's sister) has 3 children one with Adhd (previous marriage ) and other 2 have autism with his current husband But again my brother has 3 boy's and one of them is aperger's. my ex-husband had another little girl and she and our daughter together don't have autism. Good luck! Jaccqueline > > First of all I'm so glad that you found a good man!!!!! I am the mother of 4 and only one on the spectrum. I think you have to do what's best for you!!! And your husband. You don't want to regret anything later in life. Do what's in your heart!!! Guest guest
Also I have a stepson ( from my current husband), who is also in within the spectrum . > > > > First of all I'm so glad that you found a good man!!!!! Guest guest
We've been considering another child as well. We have one high-functioning kiddo (oldest) and one neurotypical. Both my boys have food reactions, so during my next pregnancy I will avoid the foods they're allergic too (wheat, milk, egg, soy, peanuts). I have heard that high testosterone and low seratonin in the mom could each be a link, so you might have those levels checked. Other than that, I don't think there's much you can do...as others have said, watch your intake of preservatives, etc. Good Luck!
Guest guest
Great timing with this thread - we just found out my wife is pregnant this week. Our only child is 4 and has high functioning ASD. We're nervous about the pregnancy but will do our best to take as many precautions as possible (including no vaccinations on the " recommended " schedule). > > > > In a message dated 3/2/2009 4:24:41 P.M. Guest guest
There's a lot you can do. Load up with fermented foods and probiotics to help pass healthy bacteria to your child. Load up on cod liver oil, ghee, coconut oil to make good breat milk. Avoid allergens and eat clean proteins, lots of vegetables. Keep your bowels moving. Don't take meds including tylenol and tums. If you have have heartburn work on digestion, food combining. Watch toxic exposures like nails done, hair done, make-up, cleaning products, fluoride etc.... http://www.bodyecology.com/07/01/11/woman_needs_to_know_have_a_baby.ph > > We've been considering another child as well.
