Guest guest
Cam has been prescribed Citrus Pectin several times previous to being diagnosed with Lyme (1/2 scoop from EcoNugenics at bedtime). Each time he became extremely ill (developing flu-like symptoms that would last from days to months!) Finally, we decided that it couldn't be a coincidence (after trying to give him the CP and having the same result 4 times) and stopped trying to give it to him. Well, a few weeks ago Dr U suggested again that we give hime Citrus Pectin (for the fiber as a binder; which has always been the reason for it being prescribed to Cam). I responded that we couldn't because it always makes him sick. After the appointment it hit me that his response to the Citrus Pectin was a herx. In fact it is the only big herx we've ever gotten out of Cam (the rest of the family has had herxheimer reactions to antibiotics, homeopathics, and Hbot, but Cam has never had a flu-like herx to anything else). Well, today I asked our LLMD about it and he concured that it sounded like for some reason this CP was causing a herx for Cam. He is going to check into the reasons for us. I don't want to put him back on it until we have more information since the last time I tried to put him on the CP he became deathly ill (for 6 months and losing 10% of his body weight). I'm wondering if anybody else has seen this response to Citrus Pectin in themselves or their family members. Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Guest guest
, Which brand of citrus pectin did you use? Is your child allergy to corn? Citrus pectin is the soluble component of plant fiber derived from orange peel. However, PectaSol (the registered trademark of EcoNugenics) modified citrus pectin contains vitamin C (ascorbyl palmitate) derived from corn dextrose fermentation and palm oil. Several brands of citrus pectin in the market actually purchase the source from EcoNugenics. There are cases where the individuals do not tolerate well the fat-soluble form of vitamin C, ascorbyl palmitate. My son was on PectaSol Chelation Complex for 6 months or so. Dr. K ARTed it as a blocker for him. I replaced it with Modifilan. You can replace it with either Modifilan or alginates to see if they can work better for your son. Guest guest
Thanks for your response Limin. He was using Pectasol from EcoNugenics. He is not allergic to corn. Each time I've given him the citrus pectin he got sick (fever, fatigue, low appetite) and I discontinued the CP (after less than 3 doses). He stayed sick for 1 week - 6+ months (the six month illness was just before we found out about his Bb infection. He had only 6 well days in 6 months; not consecutive. I started him on antibiotics after 6 months of illness and he almost immediately became better; within 6 months of antibiotic treatment he was boosted into full recovery from ASD). I had been looking at it as an allergy or strange coincidence that he was getting sick whenever I try to introduce CP; but now I see it as a herx response. I'm not sure why though. You pointed out that the form of Vit C in this brand is fat soluable; that may be the key! Thanks again! Any input you can give is greatly appreciated. > > , > > Which brand of citrus pectin did you use?
