I think we all agree with you and venting is needed from time to time!

The only problem I have with your venting was when you mentioned offering someone a piece of gum?????????? WHY DO YOU EVEN HAVE GUM???????

Anyway, I always eat alone and I am becoming more of a hermit every day. I too have a friend who eats into the phone and I just hang up! ha ha ha

Okay - I know some people don't like us using thisforum as a means of venting and stuff and listing ourquirks...but I need to vent to someone who willunderstand my annoyances and sensitivity..and make funof me or chew loudly and smack their lips to furtherpiss me off ...... I get a call this morning from afriend who is eating the entire time I am talking toher....chewing loudly, having to pause to swallow andtalking with food in her mouth the entire time I am onthe phone.....I was so pissed at her by the time wehung up that I almost cancelled my plans withher.....and I finally told my mom about my sensitivityissue and she still crunches in my ear, talks withfood in her mouth and omg does it make me want to hither.....you are supposed to at least try to not do itin my presence but my god...seriously....when I gothere and dinner is done, I know I either need to runout the door or pray she eats in her bedroom......andthen yesterday I call my sister and my niece answeresand she's in the middle of chewing and I was likewtf....don't answer if you can't talk clearly....letthe answering machine pick it up for christ'ssake...so she hands the phone to my sister and mysister was like, were you about to hang up b/c she waschewing and I was like you bet....I can't standit......I seriously wish people knew how frickenannoying they were....and I don't know why but all ofa sudden I have been noticing the people that Inormally eat lunch with making more sounds than usualand it isn't like they are doing it intentionally butit just drives me mad...I really wish I was morenormal...you don't want to hurt someone's feelings bycovering your ears when they eat, but if they know youhave the sensitivities they should be more mindful ofthe way they smack their lips and such....oh god isthis getting to me a lot lately....how do you tellsomeone to chew quieter and swallow softer...it'sgetting to the point where i can't stand to hearmyself swallow....I made the mistake of offering gumto someone the other day after I asked them if theysmack their lips and they said that theydidn't....they lied....and I wanted to beat the crapout of myself for even offering someonegum....yesterday I saw my daughter after work andwithin the first 3 minutes she was mad at me becauseshe was chewing gum and I made her spit it out...Icouldn't stand the sound...I am my own enemy...okay Ithink i'm done for now...hope nobody takes offensethat I used this forum to vent and not list anythingmedical or research wise....I had no other person toturn to in this lip-smacking, heavy breathing, chewingloudly, insensitive world.....__________________________________________________________Looking for a deal? You know what helps me when I am confronted with people who know how much something bothers me and they continue to make the sounds just to see me react?? I really do not wish this on anyone but I think and feel that one day they will "get it" maybe because their grandchild or new spouse or friend has this problem and that is when they will be more understanding. At least I hope so!! I feel like I am living in a fog and just going along until this life is over...thinking of leaving my noisy husband...I started the Zone Diet two days ago...we will see how that goes....means I am not having drinks in the evening and have to face all my problems with a sober mind....back to thinking about leaving my present life...it is hard to live with this, that is for sure!!

Hi Deanna, Just wanted to offer my support and empathy for what you are going through. When I meet new people and bring up the topic, they will, at times, make fun of me or chew even louder. That's very irritating - and also pretty much human nature, unfortunately. Luckily, eventually they do understand the very real annoyance - that it is something I cannot help, and that I'm not trying to be controlling, but that it really is, for me, worse than nails on a chalkboard. I don't have any sage advice - just wanted to let you know you're not alone, and I do understand.Hugs, Add some color. Personalize your inbox with your favorite colors. Try it!

I HATE when people think it's funny to make the noises I hate after I tell them that it bothers me. That is when I have dark fantasies....I don't like

mice or snakes, so I think of other horrific things

like putting them in a cage with crawling cockroaches

or something to that effect....something that you know

would make them feel how we do when we ar surrounded

by their chewing and lip smacking....I want their

anxiety levels to skyrocket and their heart beat to

increase to an unhealthy rate....let them sit in their

personal hell and suffer....

Pia,

Don't get me wrong, I tend to think dark

things....but I also have an optimistic side (how

weird and hypocritical of me). Things could always be

so much worse.....we have an outlet...some people

don't....we can walk away from sounds or drown them

out.....our present lives are worth living....even if

we have to live them sober.

and I get the "Come on, act like a grown-up will you? You're being ridiculous." FROM MY WIFE! or my father. or my brother. or my co-workers! Like I CHOOSE to be bothered by sounds that don't offend the majority of people. You're right, I LOVE living like this..... Deanna Olbinski wrote: and that is exactly what they do!!!!! It pisses

I actually stopped telling people that those sounds bother me, b/c I found

that " word got around " and people would just show up and make those sounds

in front of me to see what would happen. I now just exit any situation

(either by walking away or by putting in my iPod) where those sounds exist.

I've even been known to exit an elevator I'm already standing in if someone

else gets in who is chewing gum -- God forbid the elevator got stuck and

I'd be trapped with that sound!

I do that too. But it doesn't work in situations where I'm watching TV and my wife decides to sit down next to me and eat an apple. (AARGGH!) When I get up and go in the other room, it's because I'm ridiculous.
