Guest guest
what are hitchhiker toes? Also, I have always worn down the heels of my shoes on the outside extremely fast (had to get rid of shoes b/c there was no heel left and was wearing into the the "shoe" itself). No one ever seemed to think this was strange. Not even my physiatrist or neurosurgeons (i have 2)--- not that i pointed it out to them.. They never asked either. i didnt know it was related to SB. Can this cause hip joint pain after long periods of walking? it feels like my hip joints are grating on eachother after long periods of walking (in addition to the usual back pain and leg pain). i want to go to six flags this summer, but i am afraid i will get there, but be in sooo much pain after 2 hrs or so that i wont be able to enjoy it and wont be able to get around. I have also heard "hammer toes" mentioned on the list. what are they? I think my toes look pretty normal, and in my neurosurg's notes i have never seen anything about toe deformity mentioned... The only foot changes i have is that my right foot is a little more than 1/2 size smaller than my left. do these conditions develop over time? if so what causes them? or are you born that way? THanks for some direciton with my walk! jenn SBO @ L2 w/diastematomyelia & TCS untethered 4/5/00 & lipoma removal, possibly retethered. I have always walked on the outer edge of both feet and my parents had difficulty in keeping me in shoes as it wears the heels away fast. I've also had hitchhiker toes on both feet. ----- Original Message

Definitely related to SB, TC, any kind of lower spinal cord injury or damage Can this cause hip joint pain after long periods of walking? it feels like my hip joints are grating on eachother after long periods of walking (in addition to the usual back pain and leg pain). Yes, after I got orthotics a few years ago, all my hip and knee pains went away. These were just custom insoles and they were slanted so I would walk on all the soles of my shoes. I have also heard " hammer toes " mentioned on the list. what are they? Nerve damage causes excess tone in some muscles and lack of tone in others and cause your toes to curl under - like a hammer claw. No answer on that one. THanks for some direciton with my walk! We hope your walk will progress straight ahead with no pain! Rick
Guest guest
The hitch hiker toes ride up on the other toes and don't touch the floor.
