Do any of you give your children flax oil straight with like a syringe

or something?

I am tired of trying to hide stuff in her food in drinks. She knows

it is there and then doesn't want to eat or drink.

I am thinking I might be able to just get her to take it straight if I

offer some sort of reward to her.

I'd try it yourself first. I was surprised how bad it tasted to me (like

eating grass).

Have you tried mixing it with plain yogurt and honey? My dd loves it that way. Very good for her too. Flax oil tastes pretty good on pasta with a little Parmesan. But maybe that doesn't get as much into a child at one time as you would like. Bonnie

But wouldn't pasta and parmesan both be very constipating?? Susie ~Bonnie Juettner wrote: Flax oil tastes pretty good on pasta with a little Parmesan. But maybe that doesn't get as much into a child at one time as you would like. Bonnie

For those who use flax, how much do you use? Dr. Sears says 2 tsp. for toddlers.

Susie, Someone just posted a kid lax chewable a couple weeks ago in an attatchment. I had flax in it. I think that could be much easier on the child and the parents. Kirkman Labs has chewables wafers etc. I didn't save the paper I downloaded sorry. Maybe you could post asking for info from the person who posted kidlax jeanieSusie wrote: But wouldn't pasta and parmesan both be very constipating?? Susie ~Bonnie Juettner

Depends on the pasta, and on the child. There are lots of different pastas out there...we're doing well at the moment with a quinoa pasta. As for cheese, it just depends. My DD turns out not to be bothered by it. There are cheese alternatives too, if you child will eat them (mine won't!).

Thanks Bonnie!! I didn't realize that there were any non-constipating pastas. I did know that there were cheese substitutes, but just figured that when someone says cheese they are refering to the dairy kind. I know some are lactose intolerant, and get diareah, but they wouldn't eat it to begin with. I have never heard of anyone not being effected (even with a healty colon) by cheese. That is very interesting to note!! We're gonna have to try that quinoa!!! I want to see more options in my dd's diet!! Thanks again!! Well, enough flax seed oil for my son usually made him puke (he needed

2 tbsp.), so we used mineral oil even though I would have preferred

flax. Our best oil dosage method is almost straight--it's mixed with a

juice (his choice within limits of what I have in the house--the kids

aren't always allowed juice, so it's a bit of a treat). We use one of

those syringes sometimes used for dosing medicine, so I squirt an

oil/juice " mix " into his mouth.

I am, at least in theory, a person who prefers not to use a

reward/punishment approach, but I would probably give myself a reward

for taking oil every day if I couldn't swallow a capsule!

I didn't get chance to add info to this thread earlier. Anyone who

is using flax oil for it's laxative and omega 3 benefits, please know

that in order to properly convert it, you need enough B3, B6, zinc,

magnesium and vitamin c in order to convert it to EPA and DHA.

That said -- there are 2 companies that I know of that make orange

flax oil -- which is much more palatable than regular. Omega

Nutrition and another one I can't recall the name -- it's tougher to

find -- and SUN is in the name -- sorry -- over 40 mind.

In our house we couldn't get enough flax in my son to make a

difference -- magnesium was the ticket for us.
