Guest guest
I started using a topical rub called " Tiger Balm " a few weeks ago for acute pain in my fingers, wrists, and other smaller affected joints. It actually helps some. I've tried a lot of other topical pain relievers, but none worked. Tiger Balm, Extra Strength (the red one) seems to work the best for me. It's available in most health food type stores. It seems to work best when I have over-used or stressed a joint. I tried some Capsaicin-P once, at the suggestion of my doc. It has cayenne pepper extract in it, which is supposed to block pain. It REALLY burned, especially when I sweat, or used it on my feet and put on socks. I couldn't get the stuff off! The more I rubbed, the more it burned. And the burning lasted for 24 hours ( so did my hopping around). I suppose in a way it worked, like smashing your toe to forget about a headache. My skin is really sensitive, so it may work for some without sensitive skin. Just don't break a sweat or put on your feet if you are going to cover them. By the way, cayenne pepper has salicylic acid in it (aspirin). -Brent pain medication My daughter is 5 and has systemic JRA. Lately she has been having severe pain in her fingers and arms especially at night. Last week she cried all night and we tried everything to help her with the pain, warm baths, heating pads, tylenol but nothing worked. Out of desperation I gave her tylenol with codiene and at 5am she finally went to sleep for 4 hours. I asked her rheumy for a prescription for pain if she needed it but she refused and just wanted to up her steroids which have already caused a 25pd weight gain. Does anyone know of anything I can give her that might help with the pain. I have posted this question to the JRA list but have only got one response so far.
