I recently purchased Superlearning - now I have to find sometime to read it:) Below are a number of wesbites which members may find useful: Accelerated Learning Network http://www.accelerated-learning.net/ ------------------ http://www.superlearning.com/ -------------- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superlearning Superlearning is the usual term for a system to help people learn large amounts of information quickly and easily. It is also the title of a book on the subject, copyright date 1979, by Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder with Ostrander. The book focuses primarily on a system developed by Bulgarian scientist Georgi Lozanov. The system involves playing very specific, relaxing Baroque music with a tempo of 60 beats per minute as bits of information are read to the student with 4 or 12, but usually 8, beats between each piece of information. The tone of voice is alternated for each bit of information to break monotony, which hinders the learning process. --------------- Accelerated Learning or Superlearning http://www.shvoong.com/www/3223-accelerated-learning-superlearning/ ------------- Accelerated Learning http://www.funderstanding.com/accelerated_learning.cfm Definition " Accelerated learning is a comprehensive approach to school change, developed in 1986 at Stanford University. Accelerated learning aims to create school success for all students by closing the achievement gap between at-risk and mainstream children. The idea is to radically change individual schools by redesigning and integrating curricular, instructional, and organizational practices so that they provide enrichment--not just remediation--for at-risk students. The term now associated to many methods in education that work to accelerate learning. The term " accelerated learning " is a very broad term and encompasses many different techniques, methodologies and approaches to teaching and learning. Some methods which would generally be considered to fall under the title of accelerated learning would be: mind maps, Brain Gym or Edu-Kinesthetics, concert texts, reading to music, multiple intelligences theory, various memory techniques, the use of music to influence the emotional and mental state of learners, state setting in a broader sense, the use of songs to aid learning, pattern spotting, the implementation of chunking, suggestopedia, Neuro- linguistic programming, the use of drama, suspension of disbelief etc. ============= Additional comments/resource recommendations would be much appreciated Carruthers Wakefield, UK
