Guest guest
Hi Gimbal36, I sensed no negativity in the recent BBC video. It was all factual information the video gave out. The reporter asked the woman "Do You know who this is?" The woman said "no". Steve said "I am the guy walking across america". Steve said as they walked along " He is from BBC , He Knows". The two women were obviously not up to date on current events regarding their community. Steve's choice of Steak and Eggs was a wise choice from the resturant menu. Steve explained that resturant menus had mostly food cooked in oil or battered or covered in gravy. His choice of a hiking meal was wise. Eggs are a complete food, with all nutrients and vitamins, and amino acids for complete protein, the steak will provide Steve with the necessary minerals and vitamins he would otherwise miss, because the menu did not include romaine lettuce, sliced cucumber, fresh tomatoes, red and yellow and green peppers, sliced green zuccinni squash, red kidney beans, soya bean curd or soya beans etcetera. Steves comment in the dinner is self explanitory. Not much on the menu, so steak and eggs is a good choice when there is nothing else but oil fried, battered, and gravied foods.Best Regards from william banana_caesar wrote: I saw Steve for the first time on TV the other night on a BBC news broadcast. Steve, I've been rooting for you and am so impressed that you've not given up. But...wow, that was a big shot of negativity. You seemed petulant that the woman on the sidewalk didn't know who you were (snidely saying something like "well this guy does", refering to the reporter with you). Then shoveling in what appeared to be a gigantic, very unhealthy breakfast while complaining about that very thing to the reporter. And finally, hey, I call em as I sees em, but dude, have you really lost any significant amount of weight? It just doens't look like you've lost much at all since leaving for this journey...Just wondering, you should be proud of the miles you've walked, wondering where the bitterness and negativity are coming from... Guest guest
Oh come off it. A freakin' huge heaping platter of fried steak and eggs is NOT a wise choice for anyone, especially someone who is morbidly obese and needs to lose about 150 pounds. I can't understand why you are hung up on this. It's Steve's walk. It's Steve's body and not once has he recommended that anyone does what he does. A freakin' huge heaping platter of fried steak and eggs is NOT a wise choice for anyone, especially someone who is morbidly obese and needs to lose about 150 pounds. Not to mention the heart-stopping whopping dose of artery-clogging fat and cholesterol in that meal. Yeah, it's true, most diner food sucks. So why was Steve IN a diner then? He'd be a lot more convincing if he were filmed picking out a loaf of whole- wheat bread and some veggies and lean coldcuts at the supermarket, then making himself a couple of healthy sandwiches. SO WHAT???? What's it to you? I happen to think we can vary from a healthy diet and eat something that maybe isn't so healthy once in a while. Hopefully after we do that we can get back to eating healthy UNTIL we decide to do it again. THEN that is OUR choice - why should you get so upset? Are you paying for anything? He's not trying to hide what he's doing. Are you SOOOO perfect? Shirley

I was simply responding to 's absurd assertion that a huge platter of steak and eggs was a " wise choice " of meals for a morbidly obese person who claims they are trying to lose weight. Guest guest
I believe a calorie is a calorie is a calorie as long as the food has nutritional value...it shouldn't matter what Steve eats - Eggs are practically a complete food...and steak is also good - especially since Steve is getting so much exercise. I am by NO MEANS an expert on food...and I'm sure I'll get a lot of flack for posting this...but really, what Steve ate follows many diet plans (such as Atkins) and I've known so many people that swear by the Atkins diet and have lost and maintained their weight loss that way. In my younger day I was a runner, and would run 10K races...and I always ate carbs before an event...but Steve needs support and positive thinking...not second guessing...I mean, really, he's not eating Lemon Meringue pie or Hostess Cupcakes. Guest guest
You know, I think the reason most of us are out here is BECAUSE Steve is not perfect. If he was or even clamed to be there would be much less interest. We couldn't compare. Because he is not perfect and does not pretend to be, we support him. We gain encouragement from him. We see that we CAN accomplish a great deal. Because another normal person with problems can do it. Jane
Guest guest
Hi gimbal36, What's the problem?, why shout on this site. The cold cuts you advocate are impregnated with sodium nitrate, and the white bread is no better, suppose that there is no supermafrket in a small highway town between regional shopping centres and the back pack has limited room for daily provisions. I'll say it again unless you have something better, eggs are complete food and steak is excellent food. The need for vitamins, minerals, and complete protein on a daily day long walking program is not rocket science, especially along a highway with fastfood outlets. best regards, williambanana_caesar wrote: >> I sensed no negativity in the recent BBC video. Right, coz y'know, diners NEVER serve anything healthy, like a BLT on wheat, hold the mayo. Nope, better go with the huge hunk 'o FRIED RED MEAT, with a chaser of a couple of high-cholesterol eggs. Yup, that's the " wise choice " .
Guest guest
Give it a rest. The fried steak incident happened last year. Steve admits that he had poor eating habits. He has improved his diet since then. A big part of Steve's journey was for self-discovery - finding out what he was doing wrong and making changes where needed. He is doing just that. What is important is where he is now, not the mistakes he made in the past. And if Steve does decide to indulge in his favorite meal from time to time, that is his choice too. Don't be so quick to condemn. I'm sure you are not perfect. I know for a fact that I am not. We can't expect Steve to be either. Guest guest
What a big fuss about the steak and eggs. What are you people going to do if you see Steve drinking a beer, commit mass suicide? As far as I know he never asked to be anybody´s hero so I guess he is free to do what he wants. I still think it is great what he is doing. Just keep going Steve!
