Supplement Quality and Claims

Hi Everyone,

I notice a lot of people asking about the quality of supplements and claims

the manufacturers make regarding them. A really great website I found about a

year ago is basically the consumer reports of the supplement world. I first

heard about it in an issue of Oprah magazine. They go out and randomly purchase

different products from retail stores and test them. You would be very

surprised at how many big name products fail their tests, and it is all

published on the website. I believe it is $25.00 a year for a subscription.

The website is called www.consumerlab.com and I highly recommend it.

I have done some research on supplements myself, and found that they

are just not to be trusted. You can gain all the necessary vitamins

and nutrients from a good diet, only in the case of extreme training

do you need additional supplements (so save your money). Dispute all

the great things they CLAIM to do, they aren't regulated by the FDA,

so they can say whatever they want. A great resource I found was the

Gatorade Sports Science Institute. Here is an article I found that

may be useful: http://www.gssiweb.com/reflib/refs/568/ssert48.cfm?

pid=38 .
