Guest guest
Please share a scientific reference for the breakdown of polyethylene glycol (Miralax) to 'antifreeze' (ethylene glycol) in the body. This sounds outrageous to me!!! > Look up oxalates or wait for LeeAnn's post she can explain it better than I...........they are in rubarb and strawberries naturally and in our daily diets in low doses, but ethylene glycol or (antifreeze), when consumed causes oxalate crystals in the kidney's and that's how the animals die of renal failure, and that seems to be what's happening to people who take Miralax, this could be why the children are all complaining of stinging and burning when urinating. They also seem to be urinating oxalate crystals, die of renal failure and have urinary reflux.......... post miralax. > Jeanie
Guest guest
There isn't a scientific reference for the breakdown available, there is, however, material safety data sheets...........please look them up..........and please refer to the fda adverse reaction sheets where people, including children, have died from renal failure after ingesting peg. IT.......... IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT CHILDREN HAVE DIED FROM INGESTING THIS PRODUCT !!!!! concretegirl007 wrote: Please share a scientific reference for the breakdown of polyethylene glycol (Miralax) to 'antifreeze' (ethylene glycol) in the body. Guest guest
Take a look... http://www.safety.duke.edu/msds/ProdPharmacy/Polyethylene_Glycol_Gut_Lavage.pdf This is a material safety data sheet from a MEDICAL FACILITY...Duke University. They are referencing it as a material used in gut lavages (washing out the gut). However, they continually refer to it as a "chemical" and "somewhat hazardous to ingest." Lots more...maybe this will help answer some of your questions. ~ Tracie From: miralax [mailto:miralax ] On Behalf Of Jeanie WardSent: Wednesday, September 05, 2007 8:35 PMTo: miralax Subject: Re: WHAT?? Guest guest
Sorry, one more. How about this one: http://www.waters.com/WatersDivision/pdfs/peg.pdf Toward the middle, it says that toxicity increases with molecular weight. I'm surely not a chemist, but does that mean since the MW of Miralax is 3350, it's more toxic than other lower MW forms? There is a chart here that I think states at what point toxicity is reached (MW vs. weight of whatever is ingesting). Again, not a chemist, but maybe? Anyone know? Guest guest
Considering that polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a polymer of ethylene glycol (EG) molecules, it is not unreasonable to think it possible that some ethylene glycol could be released from the polyethylene glycol in the human GI tract. For the non-scientists: a polymer is a chain of monomers. For example, if you had 20 beads on a string, one bead would be one monomer and the string of beads would be a polymer comprised of 20 monomers. Ethylene glycol is released when polyethlene glycol is degraded. Because no one has provided a publication stating whether or not EG can be released after ingestion of PEG does not mean it cannot or does not happen. It simply means we do not yet know. Thankfully, I've found the support and stories here prior to using Miralax with my child, so I cannot speak from experience what the children (and adults) who've used Miralax go though. However, it is hard to believe that it is merely coincidence that these parents have come together with these similar experiences after their children were on Miralax and that many of the symptoms these children have experienced are similar to symptoms of EG toxicity. The material safety data sheet (MSDS) on PEG 3350 from a well-respected chemical company - Sigma Aldrich - which supplies a vast number of chemicals and biological reagents for the research world actually states the following: " ORAL EXPOSURE If swallowed, wash out mouth with water provided person is conscious. Call a physician. " " SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE To the best of our knowledge, the chemical, physical, and toxicological properties have not been thoroughly investigated. " Additionally, it states the same sorts of user precautions as the other MSDS's linked to in this thread (such as limiting exposure to the skin, avoiding ingestion, avoiding stirring up dust, etc.). You can view the entire MSDS here (I hope the link works - if not, you can go to www.sigmaaldrich.com and search for PEG 3350 and look for the MSDS): http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/cgi-bin/hsrun/Suite7/Suite/HAHTpage/ Suite.HsSigmaAdvancedSearch.formAction > > Please share a scientific reference for the breakdown of polyethylene > glycol (Miralax) to 'antifreeze' (ethylene glycol) in the body. > This sounds outrageous to me!!! > > > Look up oxalates or wait for LeeAnn's post she can explain it > better than I...........they are in rubarb and strawberries naturally > and in our daily diets in low doses, but ethylene glycol or > (antifreeze), when consumed causes oxalate crystals in the kidney's and > that's how the animals die of renal failure, and that seems to be > what's happening to people who take Miralax, this could be why the > children are all complaining of stinging and burning when urinating. > They also seem to be urinating oxalate crystals, die of renal failure > and have urinary reflux.......... post miralax. > > Jeanie >
Guest guest
Also note.............at the bottom it says in small print NE means not established..........read it again.................nothing is really established. It also says it's combustible, I have several MSDS that have instructions for hazard disposal and wear protective gear because it's combustible. It also says do not flush down the toliet.............Nice! Thank you for the post! Why would someone have this brilliant idea to give something that causes burning to the skin..............to give to our children for constipation? Guest guest
Also, if ethylene glycol causes oxalate crystals in the kidneys and is resulting in fatalities from renal failure.......................... And children that have ingested polyethylene glycol are urinating oxalate crystals, and dying from renal failure, it would only prove that it is obviously doing the same thing............ How many more children is it going to take? They pulled Zelnorm after ONE fatality Jeanie Ward wrote: Let's not forget the 665 people who've contacted the fda with life threatening outcomes and the almost 10 children that have died from this chemical.....animal studies show that rats die in peg solution even if they just placed them in it................the equation is simple: ethylene glycol causes renal failure and death polyethylene glycol causes renal failure and death I'm sorry? Guest guest
Be careful on the info you get from this question...do they think they are doing well because they are unaware of the changes - some of the changes occur so slowly it's hard to see them sometimes. Also, if someone is experiencing difficulties but has been told by their doctor that it's not related and they believe the doc, they may give misinformation. Just some caution... ---- Yang Lin wrote: > Hello! > > Is there anyone out there taking Miralax for long term > but don't have any side affects?
