Hi Farah-Welcome to the boards! You've inquired about my favorite

subject (other than Tae Bo). You can certainly lift weights for your

arms. In fact, I would highly recommend supplementing your workout. It's always best to do other types of exercises, instead of just one.

If you only do one type of exercise, your body gets used to it and your

progress actually slows down.

Now, with that said, I would recommend toning with weights, a good

stretch or yoga workout and of course Tae Bo. I personally do other

types of aerobic exercises, but it's not necessary. Tae Bo for cardio

will definitely be enough.

I would concentrate on arm exercises for the biceps and triceps. If

you want any suggestions, holler and I will be more than happy to

outline something for you. Make sure the weights you choose are

challenging. If you can do more than 12 reps per set, the weight is

too light!

Now on to protein drinks. I'm a former bodybuilder and I've been

drinking protein drinks for years. They are not only for guys. There

is a new whey protein/soy drink out called Isis. It's by Next Protein.

I've been using their Designer protein since the early 90's. Even

though I haven't used their new protein powder, I'm sure it is good. I

also use Met RX. Again, it's just not for men nor bodybuilders. If

you want more info. on protein drinks, let me know.

*****Kelley I think you make a good point. I think for a lot of kids *not*

talking about OCD becomes compulsive in itself and avoidance behavior. Kel's

therapist makes the point frequently that OCD breeds and strengthens itself in

the shadows, dragging it kicking and screaming into the light is the first step

toward eradicating it. Ok so he's a little dramatic but I think the point is

true. Avoiding talking about any problem just lets it grow bigger. Accurately

IDing the problem lets us figure out what we can do about it. When Kel has

protested that something's not OCD, more lately I've been responding that

(whatever situation or behavior) *is* a problem, whether or not it's an OCD

problem we need to find a solution. (ERP for OCD problem, another type of

solution for a regular problem...) This takes the focus off of " is too, is not "

(OCD) and on to the real issue.

, what a tough time you are going through! Hang in there! It is going

to get better for you and your son, even if it doesn't feel like it now. You

might want to talk to the school and see about reducing your son's homework

while he's adjusting to the med changes. It is so hard to keep everything going

Is it possible your son has a flu-bug right now? My son, my husband and I have been sick the past couple of days with nausea, congestion/runny noses, low fever, and lots of coughing. My son has been on Valtrex since 10/11, so I know his symptoms are not related to the Valtrex (plus we have the same thing).

Stan, if her son is suffering so much can she give him an OTC flu/cold medicine to help him get through this? I had to give Nicolas Children's Tylenol today because he was pretty miserable, and I've been giving him Triaminic Nightime Cold medicine the last couple of nights so he (and we) can get some sleep.

I don't see why not, but I don't have experience with that during Valtrex

treatment, so my

opinon shouldn't count.

I know that sounds silly to say, it's such a simple question, but if I don't

have personal

experience in something, I'll let tell you.

If you use an OTC cold/flu medicine with Valtrex I would like to know your

experience

either way.

That is a great start!! Congratulations to ! I know the joy that brings. Pat K

Ok so I have been meaning to post this very good news! On Wed, I had sent cookies to s class! I bought 7 of them and they were pretty big! They were shaped like apples, frosted red with a green stem! There are 3 kids, 1 teacher and 3 assistants! Anyhow on Wed morning I got an email from Jenna his teacher went Potty for the first time!!!! They have been working with him very hard and the assistant miss le usually goes in and works with ! He even was taught how to stand up and go! And he did! So... Jenna said they were going to have a party potty for him with the cookies I sent in! I was so very thrilled! You all know how hard this has been and nobody else got him to do this! I cried even! I wish I would of been there to see and for the party! Jenna said she would call me after school and she did and said that he went potty 6 times!!! So when I got him off the bus we were all excited and went inside and to the bathroom! He took down his pants and stood there and peed! So I got the potty chart out that I have been saving and I don't know how much he understood but I explained that every time he makes potty and/or poopy in there he will get a little car and a sticker goes on his chart! It is a wonderful start for sure! I asked about yesterday abd he said he did not go but then again he will say things like that just to avoid talking about it! I tried to have him go on Thurs a few times and he would only want to stay there for a second and was done and wanted nothing more to do woth it! I tried this am and he resisted! I asked him if he was going to go to school and go potty for Miss Jenna, Miss le, Miss and Miss Jermese! And you know what he said to me? No I don't think so! Maybe later! His way of putting me off! Well at least we are off to a good start! Maybe if I make it like a game now and do the cherrio thing that might work some at this point! Stacie, at least you know that knows how to use the toilet, and he will probably start using it when people stop focusing on it.

We have a small bathroom at the bottom of the stairs below Karac's training room, and I wanted Karac to use that bathroom instead of the one in the hall next to 's office, but Karac would not even go in that bathroom. I was determined that there was no reason for Karac to be afraid of that bathroom. I bribed; I insisted; I tried to trick him; I nagged every day for I don't know how long; then I finally gave up. One day I passed by the bathroom, and Karac was in there quietly using it. I didn't say a word. He has used that bathroom every since. Pat K

Hi Stacie, has done a wonderful new thing! As soon as he is

comfortable with his new skill level he will make it a part of his

routine. Its such a big step and they have to give up so much pullup

security. When he gets comfey and feels secure about big toilets, big

world he will go agin. He's made a big step in that direction now.

Best wishes,

Tishanne

Pat,Kids are something aren't they? It has to be "their" idea! The thing with is, even when we did not say a thing about potty he would not go! He has not went again and his teacher says he seems to be getting stressed out about it now!StacieSent via BlackBerry by AT&TFrom: pkuenstler@...Date: Sat, 4 Oct 2008 01:11:57 EDTTo: <AutismBehaviorProblems >Subject: Re: Stacie, at least you know that knows how to use the toilet, and he will probably start using it when people stop focusing on it. When Karac was on Clonidine sometimes he had difficulty urinating. As smart as is there must be some explanation. Could you get him to make up a RAP about it? I'm really interested in ; Pat K

can express himself to a certain extent. I dont think it hurts him. i just dont think he wants to. He is on Depekote for seizure disorder and then a low dose of risperdal. I called his dr and she is probably going to be calling tomorrow to increase that.

Thanks,

I know how you feel about your husband just lying in bed, but you would probably feel worse if you didn't have a husband lying in bed. Sometimes I feel that way when I am walking out the door with a brief case to go teach, and is sitting at the table drinking coffee and reading the paper. I think, "There is something wrong with this picture". Stacie, I don't think you need to be concerned about losing your mind. "God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind". smile. Love, prayers, and blessings, Pat K In a message dated 10/6/2008 9:22:37 A.M. I just put my hands to my head this AM and screamed I can't take this! My husband works till midnight so while I am out there losing my mind he is just laying in bed and it really makes me mad! Then I have the stress of the girls room which they share being a disaster again and they have been up there for a week and I went to check and OMG they think it looks clean and I am saying ya right! UGH!!! Then my child with HF ASD comes down for school like every day with clothes that are not weather appropriate and do not match etc! An every day thing and she just does not care!StacieSent via BlackBerry by AT & TNew MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dining, Movies, Events, News more. Try it out!
