Guest guest
Marilyn: Two issues related to sending staff home when census is low. 1. There are federal laws related to exempt versus hourly. A salaried person is paid to do the job no matter how many hours it takes to complete the task. 1 hours or 10 hours. I would definitely check into the Federal labor hours. 2. What are the consequences to your rehab program(s)?? Why is the census dropping, are there other programs you could develop to improve the quality of services and are revenue producers? Can you expand into new market(s)? Have you or the administration considered all of your options before sending profession staff home? When you send professional staff home because of lack of census, you are sending them a strong message about your attitude related to their profession!!! What is the morale of the department? It sounds like the hospital is looking at the short term and cutting off the possibilities for the long term.
