Guest guest
Hi , The key to stop craving carbs. is to not eat starchy carbs or processed carbs. For example, do not eat white breads, crackers, rice cakes, wheat thins, white rice, etc. It's just like eating sugar. Keep your carb intake to complex carbs only. For example, salad greens, tomatoes and most other veggies and even some fruits. I would suggest doing a search online for a glycemic chart and choose your carbs that are lowest on the charts. Off the top of my head, carrots would be the only veggie that is not recommended. Too much sugar! Second, I recommend a couple of supplements. 5HTP and St. s Wort helps to regulate the serotonin level in your brain, which is responsible for your cravings. If you feel comfortable leaving your email addy, I would be more than happy to correspond with you via email. I know you from VF, too. I'm about ready to scrap the whole darn thing. > > 13 days is way to early to quit. If you are just starting Taebo, i.e., day 13 of your 21 DC is the 13th day that you have ever done Taebo, then you are in the learning stage. It is enough for the 21DC if you learn the correct form, and get into a routine with exercising and eating. This will set you up for the more advanced work later on. The advanced tapes, which are longer and a harder workout, should help you see results. Until you accomplish what is trying to teach you on the earlier tapes, however, you will never get the full benefits of Taebo. Have you read 's book, " The Tae-bo Way. " It is very motivating and teaches you the correct form. Remember Tae-bo and good health are a life style, not a gimmick. I would suggest not weighing yourself or measuring yourself at least until you get through the 21 DC. Even then, a better monitor of your progress would be how you fit into your clothes and how you feel as opposed to what you weigh and your measurements. I haven't lost a pound and I haven't measured myself after 7 months of doing Taebo, but I'm not going to stop. I'm learning that weight is just a number. My " ideal number " will never be as low as it was before exercising because then I was a skinny, shapeless, weakling. Now, I am strong and confident. I feel more attractive (except for the glasses) than ever even though I weigh 15+more pounds than I did in college. I would love to lose 5 pounds and fit comfortably into a size 10, but that will not determine my success. Success means to keep exercising and eating right the rest of my life regardless of the numbers. Hang in there. Elena >

Guest guest
Good Idea Barb, I like that...maybe we could all compare what we are all eating. I have been surfing the web while patiently waiting for your answers!! And on every site I have found, they all recommend in the neighborhood of 2200-2400cal/day for someone who is " moderately " active. For those who are sedentary at my weight, they recommend 1900 cal!!! Right. I think perhaps it really is my metabolism that is the culprit. So, the next question is..how do I iincrease my metabolism?? I know that building muscle will do that, and in fact, I was thinking that the slight gain on my hips might actaully be a gain on my butt...from all those kicks. That tape measure has to around the butt to measure the hips. So, I suppose that with enough time, those old butt muscles and other larger group muscles will eventually speed it up, and catch up with my intake. Swimming and walking do not build muscle, they are primarily aerobic, which is perhaps why my metabolism did not increase. But Tae Bo does build muscle, so maybe it is just going to take longer. Any other ideas on increasing metabolism?? Re: Help >, > >just making some suggestions but do not want to make you think in terms of >dieting just maybe some less costly substitutes: >you know if you switched your cereal to one less sweetened but still tasty >like Honey Nut Cheerios, it may save you some sugar carbs and offer more >fiber. Guest guest
I am a nurse. I used to work 3p-3a every third weekend, and 7p-3a 2 or 3 nights a week too. Guest guest
LOL, I make cake batter and cookie dough for the very same reason! LOL. I did some more reading and I have all the symptoms of slow metabolsim, cold, tired, fatigue, etc. I remember when I was fit, I was always on the go, always felt good. They also say, increase muscle mass to increase metabolism, especially after the age of 30!! We lose our muscle mass after age 30. Maybe I'll ahve to add strength training to the workout. Guest guest
> The only thing I can think of is that Dietwatch recommends too many > calories. I know weight watchers would have my caloric goal closer to > 1200-1400 cal/day (even with exercise), not 1700, like Dietwatch recommends > for " light activity " . In fact, at my height, they recommend 1500 for > MAINTENANCE, after the weight is lost. I don't think I could cut my intake > that much if I tried. , I do WW and I almost ALWAYS eat over what they tell me to eat. Honestly, I think that there recommendations are a little on the low side...if you are active. I do taebo 6 days a week...4 days of Advanced 2 days Basic back to back. So I am doing 60 minutes of activity, 6 days a week at a fairly high intensity because I really try to work out with a lot of intensity. Anyway, for my weight/height 5'9, 153 lbs, they say to eat 20-29 points and I just can't do it. I found that even eating extremely healthy...3 meals, 2 small snacks of yogurt/fruit, etc....that I was over my range...so I decided to eat over their recommended points, and I found that it has helped me tremendously. I usually eat between 1500-1700 calories a day. Have you suffered from eating disorders in the past? I only ask this because I have and it has taken me a LONG time to get to this point. I also say this because you say the only thing that works for you is starvation, which leads me to the assumption that you have struggled with these issues in the past. I have been where you are, believing that starvation was the only option. Your body may be rebelling against your efforts right now, because it believes that you will again go into starvation mode. You have been very active, exercise wise and when you couple this with eating almost nothing, your metabolism almost shuts down. When you have done this for a long time, it is hard to get your body back on track. I stayed at the same weight for a long time, before my metabolism finally got back on track to the point where I could eat MORE and continue to lose weight. I know it is hard not to get discouraged, BUT my advice to you is to continue to eat the 1700 calories or so that is recommended. I wouldn't go below 1500 if you are doing tae-bo 6 days a week. It may take a little while for your body to realize that it is not going to be starved again. In the meantime, you will be building muscle, which may at first look like a " gain " in either weight or inches, but eventually it will burn the fat that is there also. Please, please don't revert back to the starvation thing. It will only make you miserable in the end. If you want to e-mail me privately, please do. For the next 2 weeks I will be at Shanabrook@.... Like I said, I know where you are coming from. I have struggled with both anorexia/bulimia in the past. Along with eating almost nothing and working out for hours at a time, I also used to take laxatives. I've done just about everything there is to lose weight. I got myself down to 130 lbs. but still was not happy with the way I looked. I had no muscle tone, even though I was working out all the time. Now at 153 lbs. I am happy with the way I look and I feel great. I eat more than I ever thought I could, and am continuing to lose weight. I am sorry this is long, or if I've overstepped my bounds, but I am really worried about you and want you to know that I understand your frustration and the feeling that the only way you can lose weight is to starve yourself. Please e-mail me or post back here if you want to talk. And please don't give up on tae-bo and trying to eat healthy. It may take awhile, but I promise you, you'll see results. Take care ... Guest guest
I have never suffered from an eating disorder in the way that I actually followed throught with it, but I would say I had the same mindset as those with eating disorders. I have cut way down on calories for a week at a time here and there, and always lost around 7 pounds, which I then kept off for months or years. When I was ill with a severe case of Mono, I lost 30 pounds in a month, and kept it off until this year. That was 12 years ago. But you can see how that disordered mentality only got reinforced. I think things have just basically changed because I am getting older. 33 is not old, mind you, but it seems to have made a big difference in my metabolism. I have customized the dietwatch rec's to 1500/day. I refuse to go below that when I am activly exercising. I don't think it would effective to do that anyway... I did get on the scale today and found I have gained yet another pound. I pigged out big today at work too, but I don't really care today and thats a first...no guilt! bec. (at least today) I am happy to exercise for the health benefits I will gain. I guess its hard for me to acknowledge that physiologically I am getting older and I can't escape it just like everyone else can't escape it. I used to think diet/exercise were a quick fix, and I'd be forever 20, but now I realize that I'm only going to continue to " age " , and if I'm going to be healthy and strong at 60, then I have to start now. I went to the store, and bought more whole wheat bread, triscuits, and cottage cheese. I'm going to use these for snacks. I'm also going to schedule 6 meals/day..to eat whether I'm hungry or not, so that I don't ever feel like I'm depriving myself, but I'll also schedule what I'm going to eat so its planned, and not impulsive. I'll let you know how it goes in a few weeks! Re: Help > >> The only thing I can think of is that Dietwatch recommends too many >> calories. Guest guest
actually sweet potatoes are recommended by sugarbusters...white potatoes aren't. ) , who is not ready to do sugarbusters yet, but will try modifying her snacks to other things she likes that are good for her. Guest guest
yes, my mother did, but she attributed it to fast food. However, she is also a carb junkie and is VERY overweight. I know if I ate 3 bowls of cereal a day, even non-sweetened cereal, I would definitely gain weight. I learned this just from experience. I also wanted to suggest, if you have the time, to increase the number of days you do taebo. I know says that 3-4 days are enough, but not for me. I have to exercise 6 days a week (with an alternative exercise like hiking on my day off) for weight loss/maintenance, mood maintenance, strengthening my weak back, pain relief, ... . My slow metabolism, depression, sinuses, and bad back insist on daily physical activiy. Good luck. See my " brag " for the week, about non-weight loss physical benefits. Guest guest
Thanks so much for these words. I have seen my daughter in bits here and there. She'll break out a sarcastic remark, or start roughousing a bit with Dad. Your words about getting your son back have me in tears. She will also say things like " Mom, I don't hate you " . She's worried about what she said during the episodes. Sounds like you are working through it. I am encouraged - thanks so much, and I'm thankful for this site.
