Hi Darcie -

I'm not sure what you mean by " plate. "

Are you refering to the plate they use for decompression? I know that they

take out that " plate " or cranioplasty if you have a CCF. I had the cranioplasty

for the PFD and then it was removed for the CCF.

I had an X-Ray done last week and I saw the hardware......screws and

rods.....but I didn't see a plate?????

I have learned one thing - when the majority of the swelling goes away then

all of a sudden you do get the feeling or sensation that things are " loosening "

or " pulling away. " I had and still have that feeling - but my imaging turned out

normal.

Everyone is different and everyone is fused differently.....people feel

different things during recovery, depending on the nature of the fusion.

I'm certainly no expert, but the nature of your incident, doesn't seem

traumatic enough to cause disturbance with the fusion hardware.

Anyways, an x-ray is a good idea to check things out.....better to know early!

I have also learned that certain movements or incidents will result in pain

regarding the CCF......a lot of it has to do with the muscles being

reconstructed (if you will) and not being able to move like they used

to......pain can result from even small movements that used to feel natural

prior to CCF. One time I looked upwards too hard (extension) and had disturbing

pain for two days.....of course it all went through my mind; " Did I just harm

something with the fusion?????? " But I have been told by my TCI nurse and my owm

doctor here that there it takes a lot to loosen or mess with the

hardware.....sometimes it can become loose (rarely) but most of the time it

takes significant trauma or the development of osteoporosis ( spelling?) years

later.

Good luck :-)
