How do you make use of the latter information - do your methods permit a flexible approach to intensity? Since I had built up to the volume in a progressive manner I have never encountered that. I have some flexibility in my training. I'm quite disciplined about going to the gym, but if I'm having a bad day I simply drop the weight and do dynamic effort. I haven't really noticed anything unusual. If I have a cycle where all the indicators are very good - especially RPE - I normally have a good meet. Suprisingly one of my very best totals occured after 3 months of sleep-deprived training. This was a result of a piriformis syndrome type of condition which was causing me severe pain about an hour after lying down. I ended up using a combination of physiotherapy, massage and acupuncture to treat the condition and went out and set a Canadian record in the squat and total in Winnipeg. So I suppose that would be a bit unusual. I tend to go for a competition max week about every 6-8 weeks, myself. Now that I'm olympic lifting I use more of a Westside type of template and do unpsyched maxes every week. -- Hobman Saskatoon, CANADA
