Guest guest
I'd thought that his medicine didn't seem to be having much effect. Could you ask him if he has discussed this with colleagues and if they see anything similar? He should be making suggestions for further investigation/treatment to you I would have thought Sally stephaniesirr wrote: > > Tom just had an appointment with Dr Fell. Guest guest
So sorry to hear about not alleviating problems have you discussed referral to immunologist with dr fell? nx Tom just had an appointment with Dr Fell. He has been scoped by Dr Balzola, and also seen by a gastro, Dr Charlton in Nottingham. All three had differing views but Drs Balzola and Fell were in the most agreement about a treatment course for Tom's oesophagitis, collitis, lack of motility and so on, involving omeprazole and pentasa. We've been seeing Dr Fell for about a year, taking Pentasa for about six months, with no particular effect. His response (Dr Fell) is to suggest that he is clearly just treating the symptoms and not the cause of Tom's inflammation and that Tom does not present as having any normal kind of bowel disease. Given that Dr Fell sees more patients with autism than any other gastro I know at present I'm not sure whether this is interesting/significant, an off the cuff comment or what. We are trying to be referred to an immunologist - on the basis that the inflammation is a more generalised auto immune response. Dr Fell suggested that Tom has IBD but was not suggesting any psychological basis for it, but clearly pointing out that his " medicine " did not appear to have the scope to alleviate Tom's symptoms. That's the clearest we've ever had from the NHS about autism/bowel being an " Other " ailment, beyond his knowledge but not " just autism " . I thought this was interesting. Bloody depressing but interesting. Steph
