Nagla,

I hear you....

We have tried all the natural stuff you mentioned to no avail.

I am very hesitant as well but at this point, I have to protect him and me

from his behavior,

I have not tried SAMe in a while, maybe I should give it a shot again.

Thank you Nagla,

Respridol

Thank you so much for the info. It is very appreciated

in may case, I had to use Residual because it was my last option...or I thought it was....his behavior were so bad that I didn't know what to do....now...I regretted....I wish I could look other options....he is just 9yrs, but I'm determined to take him off the Respirdol and find other options....GF diet, homeopathic, I'm looking for a DAN doctor to help me out with supplements...ect....Please, please, look out for other options..YES sometimes it seems that drug it's the last resort, but when your kid gets overweight and harm his own body it is not worth it

I'm just telling my own experience and I don't want you to make the same mistake I did

I know this is a very sensitive subject, so I want to preface mycomments by saying that drugs do have their place and their time, andI am in no position to judge any other parent for making an informedchoice to put their child on a prescription drug. I am not inanyone's shoes, I can't judge what's best for anyone's child oranyone's family. The information I am about to type is just thatinformation, not meant to be anything else.Risperdal and abilify are very strong and very dangerous anti-pshycotic drugs, they carry a host of side effects some of which areirrveresible like Tardive Diskentia, parkinson like tics, seizures, anddiabetes. I have heard neurologists say that these side effects arerare, but they are much more common in our kids than the generalpopulation. The other side effects that no one has assesed isdepletion of certain minerals and vitamins in the body. More thanthat

it is very difficult to get your child off these drugs once theyhave used them for a while, and the longer you use them, the higherthe chances of side effects. I have known kids have to behospitalized in psychiatric hospitals because parents tried to weanthem off anti-psychotics.If you decide to put your child on these prescription anti-psychoticsplease look into putting your child on 400 IU of natural vitamin Edaily, that seems to protect against some of the side effects.I am not sure what anyone might have tried first with their child, but there are alternative supplements that do calm kids like 5HTP,GABA, L-Theanine, SAMe, Taurine. Finally, certain food allergies, certain over the counter drugs cancause aggressive behavior. I know my son goes nuts on Benadryl,Claritin and anything that has psudoephedrine in it.Again please don't misdunderstand me I am simply passing

oninformation in hopes of helping someone nothing more.Respectfully,Nagla> > > [Texas-Autism- Advocacy] Respridol> > May I please get some feedback from parents who used it before?> > We are targeting aggressive behavior with my 12 year son.> >

Very excellent information, Nagla.  I see " drugs " as a last resort.  I know they can be necessary if a child is very aggressive, self-injurious or a danger to others.  My son has regressed emotionally this year and his anxiety has increased a great deal.  Of course, his doctor has tried to shove anti-anxiety meds at us, but I just don't think it is necessary at this point.  I want to get to the root of the problem.  When I home-schooled my son, he completely stopped stimming.  I sent him to public school and the stimming and anxiety have grown steadily worse over time.  this year has been the worst.  I think it is the environment (placement).  I will not drug him just so he can fit into their mold.  I have to make some tough choices.

Once they put my son on oral steroids, and he had a psychotic episode.  It was horrible!  All drugs have side effects.  My son has to be on steroids daily to control his lung issues.  I've hated this as they have made him gain a lot of weight.  He is at risk for diabetes.  I wish my son could grow up " drug free " like I was able to and most of the kids of my generation.  Even ADD and ADHD were rare in those days.

When my son was first diagnosed, the first thing a friend of mine suggested was " Prozac. "   We didn't speak for a long time after that.  I just think whenever possible it is best to try to find natural ways to heal and resort to psycho tropics as a last resort.

I can imagine if I had tried everything I've tried and my son had made no progress and his temper tantrums and rages were still going on.......so I am not judging anyone here.  It is just sad that so many kids have to go through this.

All ADHD meds we tried created aggressive behavior almost instantly at every dose it just got worse at higher doses. Yeast is also an issue for us we are killing off Yeast now with a short course of Duflucan and he's really craving sugar. Sugar feeds Yeast it's like an addiction with him. We also have had luck with the schedule below but I add a tiny amount of Clonidine. Melatonin had no affect on him at all. I'd also look at virus's as the cause of aggression or the possibility of a hormone imbalance. My child was very aggressive back in October way out of character and had wild look in his eyes. Turned out he had the flu but his immune system was so messed up the only outward sign was the behavior. Two weeks ago he had his first stomach bug in 10 years with a fever! I was elated. He, was confused! But his immune system did it's job and he was better in a day. Hope this helps. We see Dr. BTW.

We have tried drugs with Zach, (11 year old non-verbal PDD-NOS probably ADHD). Started seizures with resperdal and then put on Depakeote for seizures. Tried ADHD drugs caused aggressiveness. Allergy meds also caused aggressive behavior so now we do all natural no prescriptions.

He takesGABA: Magnesium: TMG with folinic Acid and Methyl B12; Yeast-Aid:Pro Bio GoldA lot of his aggressive behavior was Yeast problem get all our supplements from Kirkman. Just My 2 cents worth

My son Sloan is only 3 and our neuro put him in risperedal about 6 months ago to help withvhis agressive behaviors. I haven't noticed much help with the behavior but he does sleep all night now. I also have noticed some weight gain. It's strange after he takes his meds he gets the munchies. Were scheduled to see Dr. in May and I'm hoping he will help us get away from all the meds were on? I know we had to eventually take our son off the TMG and the B12.  It helped at first but then caused super hyperactivity and defiance issues.  Just a thought.

Was the idea that the behavior is due to a virus recommended by Dr. ? I am just curious because that is also something he has mentioned.

Sorry ...I just read the end of your email. and it answered my question.

The behavior has been going on for over 2 months now..so could a flu last that long? Did Tamiflu help with the behavior?

Thanks,
