Guest guest
Could anyone help me out on a few CPT codes. I am interested in how individuals code the following: Isokinetic Evaluation, Patient Education, and Functional Capacity Evaluation. Your help will be very appreciated. Guest guest
Mike, Here is how I set up the codes at my facility: For both Isokinetic Evaluation and Functional Capacity Evaluation I used CPT code 97750: " Physical performance test or measurement (eg, musculoskeletal, functional capacity), with written report, each 15 minutes " . I too am trying to identify the correct code for " Patient Education " . It appears to me that we could use either 97535 " Self care/home management training-------- each 15 minutes " or 97799 " Unlisted physical medicine/rehabilitation service or procedure " or 97139 " unlisted therapeutic procedure (specify) " . I believe that 97139 is a " 15 minute timed code " . If I am able to confirm one of these codes as the appropriate one, I will post to the list server. By the way, don't overlook the requirement to add the appropriate modifier. It is " GP " for Physical Therapy. There is one for Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy also (I am unsure of the correct designation since these are not my areas of responsibility). Good luck! Guest guest
It is my understanding from a presentation by Helene Fearon that patient education is billed under the CPT code that corresponds to what is being taught. For example, if you are teaching the patient and/or caregiver a home exercise program, then you would code it as therex (97110). Guest guest
I believe that this is correct. I also understand that Medicare does not pay for therapists time in Team meetings or Family Team meetings. I work on an Acute Inpatient Rehab Center within a larger Academic Medical Center. We have been charging for these meetings, but I have been notified that the meetings are part of the cost of doing business. I would be interested in others knowledge on this. It significantly affects volume projections, which the administration are holding us accountable for as well... Thanks!Kerry Wood, P.T. Guest guest
Kerry, remember that as an inpatient rehab center, you are under the TEFRA system which continues to function under cost reimbursement (at least for a while yet) so the cost of your Medicare team meetings is being included in your cost report. You have come across an area that highlights the differences between reimbursable and productive. Although your team meetings are not directly reimbursable (although they are indirectly via your cost report), the time spend (hopefully) is seen as productive and therefore valuable to the patient. Guest guest
97150, therapeutic procedure(s), is an untimed code and can therefore only be utilized once per session. Ken Mailly, PT President RPA/Mailly Consulting Inc. Orange/Wayne, NJ CPT CODES Has anyone heard that the CPT code for group therapy, if provided by a supervised PT aide, at most can be billed out in one fifteen minute code per session? Also would like to know what serial casting and compression bandaging code is being used. Thank you.
Guest guest
Try this thought The CPT code for group therapy is not considered a onetime 15 minute code. Consider it a flat rate code. This gives you more leeway in billing justification. Let me know what you think.
