Hi Clay,

I train rock climbers in Denver and depending on the

athlete, this is basically the periodization protocol that I use. The

demands of

difficult rock climbing are strength/power oriented - much the same way

sprinting is. They shouldn't be fatigued because the volume is lower,

although it

is very hard to get climbers to NOT work to failure. There is very little

research on rock climbing and it's physio demands, and nothing about

periodization for them. The junior national coach also follows this plan.
