Hello all,

I have not posted a message for a while but could not resist tonight. I just got home from a bowling charity event, bowling on a team with my coworkers. The sponsor of the event was giving away prizes for various achievements that they would call out such as a certain score by frame 5 or the first one to get a split. Well anyways, the DJ happened to observe me getting a gutter ball so I won a prize!!!

I won a 10-pack of Dentyne blast Cool Lime sugarless gum! My reaction was such that one of my bowling mates turned to me and said that I looked like I had just been offered toxic waste! There were plenty of people willing to take the gum of off my hands (I am enjoying two pieces right now in the privacy of my own home). I made a point of saying that I hate gum (other people chewing it of course) and if they took it off my hands that they were not to chew it anywhere around me. Well I took it home and thought about using the 9 unopened packs as a public service announcement. I am considering putting the gum out in the common area where my old cubicle remains vacant after I finally was afforded reprieve into a dungeon like office with mechanical noises from server equipment. Each pack of gum would come with a little note about how ironic it is that I won it and that people should help themselves to it but not to chew it around me. I have definitely been more open over the past few months about asking people not to chew gum around me. But some people may not know yet and others could stand to be reminded.

Thoughts? Suggested wording?

Thanks,

Sonya

I don't know if this is relevant, but my friends at school always ask for gum

because they know i always keep some. I like gum...but i dont smack like

everyone else in the world. So anyway, i always give it to them at the end of

class or say i dont have any. Because they forget alll the time i dont like gum

chewers. But eventually, they dont mind not chewing around me. Maybe the not

thing is a good idea? :)

but just beware...thats a lot of free gum for lots of smackers...

If it were me I would Just keep the gum. I think making a note

etc. just draws more attention to the issue – why give yourself more to stress

over. You won it – so just enjoy it. Why give ammo to someone elseJ.

Congrats on your win.

I agree with - don't make an issue over this. Putting notes on gum telling people not to chew it noisily isn't going to achieve anything but animosity towards your condition. We need people to be sensitive around us, not resent snide reminders to chew quietly.

I guess it depends on the atmosphere of the office...if they would take it well and it would give you the opportunity to be heard, then I say go for it.  If it's going to cause animosity or angry gum chewers to accost you by going out of their way to chew in your presence, then maybe not.  I don't entirely think that it's a bad idea though...just depends on the environment.

It is amazingly ironic...it would be hard not to take advantage of it!  I can totally imagine the look on my face if I won that as a prize...I wouldn't be able to hide the irony.  If it were me, I think I might wonder if it was some sort of a cruel joke?!?

Hello!

I think you're very brave - I wouldn't give them away to anyone because there's

always a possibility that they will be an ass hole and chew it stupidly in your

ear!

I actually see other people chewing gum, and ask them if I can have a piece (my

secret intention is to make them run out so they can't chew anymore haha).

I HATE stupid chewers, xxxx.
