Deanna,

Did you specifically have bloodwork and test for iron (ferrin) levels? Unless the doctor specifially calls for this test, normal bloodwork doesn't look for it. Please let me know.

Thanks,

Kathy

My doctor did specifically ask for it (ferritin). She said she tested me for my ferritin level because I exercise quite a bit. Not sure why, at that point in time she did not suspect anything was wrong.

You're right, it's ferritin, not ferrin. That's good that she tested you for it--I read that doctor's usually only test you for it if you are having symptoms, or have a relative with too much iron. I just wanted to make sure that Deanna had a test specifically for this before we rule it out as a possible commonality. Most people who get a routine bloodtest during a physical are not tested for iron. So they could go there whole lives without knowing that their iron is high.

Do you know how high yours was? My daughter's was 169. I'm not sure what that means, but I'll let you know more after Wednesday's appointment when her doctor will have the results from her 2nd test.

Thanks,

Kathy
