Guest guest
I am sorry that I have not been able to update. There are four things going on that has had me kinda overwhelmed. 1. I am in the middle of a difficult exchange process between myself and my ghostwriter. We are preparing the manuscript to date for Dateline and I wanted to make sure that things were in order. So this has taken up most of my extra time. 2. I am trying to get to Dayton by this Friday so that I can meet up with F. From www.ericthetrainer.com who is coming out to help me with developing an upper body exercise program and working on nutritional issues. 3. I was completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of interested people in Indiana since the Today Show. The day after the appearance I was stopped 32 times for pictures or chats. Now please don't get me wrong I really appreciate the efforts of these folks but it only intensified after all the interviews that followed. So I had to alter my route a bit and get some mileage done. 4. I am having some personal issues that have been making it difficult to keep focused. There you have it. Guest guest
Hey there Steve. Thanks for letting us know you are still out there. I can't blame you a bit for hiding out. I'm sure all of the attention is overwhelming. I must admit that if I had known where you were this weekend I would have come looking for you myself. I doubt that I was too far from you at one point over the weekend. As you get closer to New York it will get worse. You are bigger news everyday and more and more people are going to take an interest. Hang in there, buddy. I know I said this before but I have to say it again - I am just amazed at how fast you are moveing along now! You have really made progress. You have a lot to be proud of. You also have a lot of people out here who care about you. Let us know if we can help. Guest guest
Now for the fun part! The final stretch! Wouldn't it be neat to see the Atlantic Ocean after having left the Pacific one just a few of months ago? Now here's a question.... If the smaller city of Indianapolis produced so many well-wishers.... What's the bohemoth of a city known as New York going to do? .... Hang in there Steve! Guest guest
> What's the bohemoth of a city known as New York going > to do? .... Pure anonymity. There will be seventeen *Major* news stories going on simultaneously with our fatmanwalking triumphantly crossing the GWB. Unless of course the GWB is closed for some head of state coming into the city. --Chris
Guest guest
Hmmm... Individuals with little or no medical background, with little or no contact with SSSS sufferers have strongly diagnosed us? How very kind of them. lol
Guest guest
I think it would be great if it was an OCD, because then at least OCD medications might help to alleviate the symptoms. But since OCD and cognitive behavioral therapy hasn't really helped anyone on this site, it seems that it doesn't really fit the OCD pattern. Kathy Howe -----Original Message-----From: Soundsensitivity [mailto:Soundsensitivity ]On Behalf Of anthro_popSent: Friday, February 23, 2007 1:16 AMTo: Soundsensitivity Subject: Hmmm Some of you may be on the hyperacusis board. There has been quite a discussion on there by individuals who do not have 4 S or perhaps who have never even spoken with a person who has the symptoms of 4 S.However, it is strongly suggested by several of these individuals that you all really have a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD.I wonder, how many would agree or disagree?I am going to add a NEW POLL to the POLLS to find out. Your answer will be anonymous. Thanks for responding!Marsha Come on, let's get at least 100 or 200 responses, now.
Guest guest
Hi Marsha, I want to participate in this poll but I'm not certain how to respond because the question asks if we have been " diagnosed " with OCD. I have never received an official diagnosis because I bever sought professional help but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I experience some OCD symptoms. (These symptoms are in addition to my 4S). I want you to answer honestly but I'm not sure how to proceed. Any suggestions? Many thanks, Elaine > Some of you may be on the hyperacusis board. Guest guest
I think it is definitely related to OCD. I have never been professionally diagnosed as having OCD but I've discovered that it is consistant with the behavior that I have always displayed, just like I self diagnosed that I have ssss. Guest guest
OCD sounds plausible to me too. I have symptoms of that, and am also diagnosed ADHD. I would summise that the Amygdala may well play a large role in 4S too.
Guest guest
I definitely register this condition in the depths of my nervous system, perhaps this is the physiological part you mention. I think phobia also may contribute to 4S but I disagree with the conclusion that OCD patently does not play a part. I looked up both phobia and obsessive / compulsive disorders and both are listed under the same broader clinical diagnosis of 'anxiety disorder'. Phobias are by their nature not 'natural reactions' as they are by definition an excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the object, sound, etc. It would seem to me then that OCD does apply in this instance as an 'anxiety disorder'. We all have differing brain chemistry therefore different experiences with 4S. OCD may be the trigger for some while depression or high anxiety may fuel it for others. hidingout1234 wrote: I don't really think it has to do with OCD. I don't really have any OCD. I really believe it is a physiological. As for the anxiety and reaction that appears phobic, I think this is more of a natural reaction. The sound causes such annoyment and anger in the brain that it trigger the natural fight or flight instict that all animals have. It is more of a cause and effect relationship, than a dual co-morbidity.
