Guest guest
Hi, I needed to respond so that everyone would know that this beautiful young girl did not run right out at four months post op and do aerial stunts at cheerleading! The article may have made it sound that way, but she took everything very slow and cautious, and followed everything that her neurosurgeon laid out for her. She was able to cheer again in high school, but it was a year later and not to the extent of what she did in the past. She did not take any chances. She was able to play lacosse the spring after her surgery. I'm sure she felt like she could run a marathon, as she finally had her energy back, woke every morning without killer headaches, could do normal activities without dizziness and breathing problems, and not have the anxiety over worrying that something is seriously wrong with her. She is a very smart, special girl, who now wants to dedicate her life to helping others and educating people on Chiari. She had a 20mm herniation and a small syrinx. For three years she could not function and live a normal life. Pain was daily and symptoms were just about crippling. She now has her life back and is able to enjoy everything about her senior year in high school. She considers herself extremely fortunate, as she does not have any symptoms to date. Her surgeon did an amazing job. Her syrinx is gone and her csf flow is perfect! I hope that this article can raise awareness in our area and maybe help others to get correctly diagnosed in a more timely manner. Sincerely, Kathy
