Has anyone had any information that the VA will no longer help with rx coverage

unless patient has a service connected injury. They said it is a new regulation

which became effective January 2003.

Any feed back on this subject.

The last printed (09/2002) pharmacy information I have from a transplanted

Veteran states:

What will this cost you?

There may be co-payments that apply. If you are a priority group 7 veteran,

you will be charged a $15 co-payment by the VA Medical Center. There will

be no co-payment charge for your laboratory tests or x-rays. The VA charges

a $7 co-payment for each 30-day or less supply of drugs for non

service-connected conditions. There is no cost if you are; Rated 50% or

greater service-connected, or a veteran with income lower that the VA

pension level.

Maybe a new change from this statement??? Anyone have more current

information?

On January 17, 2003 the VA changed drastically the enrollment criteria for Vets. Any veteran who had not received VA services prior to January 17, 2003 will now be subjected to a means test as part of the eligibility process. There are eight enrollment priorities listed. The priorities are listed very clearly in a Fact Sheet released by the VA in January 2003. If a veteran doesn't meet one of the higher enrollment priorities and is an 8 then he/she will be means tested as part of the eligibility process. They will take into account only past medical expenses. They will not look at the future rx costs predicted, at least the Portland OR VA would not. Call your local VA facility and ask for the January 2003 VA Health Care Enrollment Priority Groups Fact Sheet. There was also a Q & A sheet that came with the Fact Sheet when I requested it.
