Guest guest
Hi Katrina I assume the medications you're referring to include corticosteroids. When you wean off of them, does the ulcerative colitis flare up immediately, and if so, is the flare worse than what prompted the use of the corticosteroid? Do you think the disorders that you collected after the UC onset were coincidental, a consequence of steroid use (for UC) that promoted (via the immunosuppressive aspect of steroids) the growth of opportunistic pathogens, or something else? Have you used antibiotics, even for run-of-the-mill kinds of reasons (e.g., UTI, acne, etc.) and found that they influenced your UC or other chronic conditions? Matt > > My name is Katrina. Guest guest
I was diagnosed with UC at age 10....treated for 2 years and had my colon removed. I have no idea what my treatments were but I know I didn't respond well enough! I am certain that the abdominal surgeries had a lot to do with my other illnesses....as well as the illnesses...it is pelvic floor interaction of making problems worse if not causing them. My pouchitis (I have a pouch made out of a portion of my small intestines) has been inflammed pretty much this whole time but wasn't ulcerative until recently. Since I have had a hysterectomy at age 27 or so for endo and am on anticonvulsants and antibiotics we have done everything we can to avoid steroids as an adult. I am already being treated for possible future ostioporosis and have been told...it is inevitable if we don't find a cure or something. My antiobiotics are normally for the pouch...in combination wit VSL#3. Pretty sure my Mayo Docs started me on them. Don't have much experience with comparing to what other antibiotic treatment for something else is like to my pouch since I have been on antibiotic treatment for my pouch for a very very very very long time. What I am certain of though is that the VSL helps as much as the antibiotics...if not more so. Infact too much antibiotics has gotten problem causing. > > > > My name is Katrina.
