A. & Mark E. have both posted the correct information regarding the

manual therapy code. You can verify this change on page 58890 of the

Federal Register (PFS Final Rule...) with the interim RVU's listed on page

59187 of the same document. Further verification can be found on page 416

of the CPT 1999 book distributed by the AMA, owners of the CPT codes. Hope

this helps.

That is fine however we have to see it in writing from CPT. Thanks

After 1/1/99, the new manual therapy code 97140 replaces manual

traction (97122), myofascial release (97250), joint mobilization

(97265), and the two manipulation codes (97260 and 97261). The new

code

is timed, each 15 minutes. The total relative value is .63.

Carol -

The CPT book from AMA is out and contains this code - and deletes the

others. If you mean that you require notice from your carrier or

intermediary before you can bill Medicare using this code, I would agree.

Reyna --

Medicare (actually HCFA) has sent at least some carriers (for

instance, Xact of Pennsylvania and New Jersey) the new 1999 Physician Fee

Schedule. The 97140 code is on the fee schedule, and the codeds it replaces

are not. Contact your carrier or intermediary.

Sorry for your inconvenience.

You can see the data at PTManager.com but you won't have your local GPCI

rates.

According to the 1999 CPT manual, the 97140 code will replace all that you

listed. It can also be used for lymphatic drainage.
